Well personally, I'm not a fan of getting high (or basically anything that is 1)harmful 2)unproductive) but either way, you should try to be very calm, mature and unreactive in how you respond to him, because it sounds like this is driving a wedge between you. If you don't find some way to compromise, you might be on the sucky side of a break up soon. Try to keep the convo away from things that HE does wrong, because that will only make him feel defensive and want to disagree with you further. The best policy (counter-intuitive) is actually to agree with him, try to appease, act humble, and thank him for looking out for your well being. He will feel much more positively towards you, will give you more slack, and will feel less upset about this issue.
