How do you respond when someone attacks you about your appearance?

Does anyone else feel that attacking someone about the way they look is pathetic?

Honestly it's like the most insecure thing I see people do, especially on this site. When they are mad at me they will call me fat or ugly. I'm like OK lol. It's OK if that's their opinion. Considering at that point they have lost all validity of their points and my respect for them has demolished I just don't see what that benefits. It really just makes them look like a shitty person. People result to trying to hurt that person when they've been shown up, which gives me a good laugh. If I love myself and the way I look, a loser calling me names really doesn't make them look good lol

I sometimes live by the "What you do to me, I do to you," motto. So SOMETIMES if someone attacks my appearance, I'll attack theirs. I don't do it intentionally, it just comes out. In high school, this girl I was cool with called me fat for no reason, so I called her bone and told her that she had chicken legs. I meant a felt a little bad because I hurt her feelings, but not that bad.

I get a lot of compliments on my hair. I had a frenemy who tried to clown me in front of a guy she thought was cute, about my hair. She got mad because I told her she was damn near bald head. If you have insecurities about your appearance, why would you try to attack someone else? That's not something I do unless attacked first. I don't get made about it, I just remind them that they aren't perfect. It shuts some up. When it turns into an engagement, I'm just like "Yep, yep, uh huh, surely is." Being calm and not entertaining them pisses them off even more.

Naah, I would probably ignore the shit out of them, I'm more of "you have no idea the immensity of fuck I do not give" type of person and just act like "lol, no one CARES".

I don't mind people criticizing or judging me, it's most likely to amuse me rather than offending me, really.

It's a waste of breath to actually start an argument because of it. It's ludicrous they even have to actually say it to you that they think you're ugly. Like they have nothing better to do. People who do that are probably just miserable themselves and you shouldn't focus on them one single bit.

It's not worth it to respond, but you can choose to do so if you like. I can't really provide you with a standard respond that will always apply. It all depends on what it is they said, but usually - and especially on this website - it's just pointless to have it escalate. That time is better invested in other things.

I was just thinking something similar. I don't understand why society makes our looks such a big deal. I'm pretty repulsed by that idea. I wouldn't' blame the person so much since they are influenced in this way so much by the media. They've just learned the think this way, but yeah it's off putting.

I completely understand what you mean. That's just one of the negatives of having your real picture on this site. It's happened to me plenty of times. It's definitely pathetic and a low blow. Typically I just laugh it off and/or ignore it. They're only doing it to piss you off. Usually if someone is losing a debate or their argument doesn't hold up, they just resort to name calling and personal attacks. At that point, I don't take them seriously anymore.

And I've only ever been called ugly by girls (on here), so it's kinda whatever to me.

Just block them and move on with life. Though for me they're usually anonymous so I can't block, so that was more of a suggestion to you if you don't mind blocking.

I'm a middle aged guy. It's really rare anyone says anything about my appearance positive or negative.

The fact that guys are rarely called ugly and girls are should tell you they are just trying to say whatever they think will hurt you. (Guys mainly get told they are small dicked virgins).

If they make such attacks, they've just revealed their insecurities. I just stay calm, figure out what they're insecure about, and I rip their confidence to shreds when the opportunity presents itself.

I agree it is a loser move. It obviously affected you but one day petty things like this will just roll right off of you. Obviously when someone is angry and feel insecure they will hurl insults to attempt to feel better. I feel bad for those people.

It doesn't affect me. I just like to understand peoples behaviour. I know it's a reflection of them. Whether someone is too fat or not is a matter of opinion. They've proven to have insignificant opinions so I obviously wouldn't take advice from an uncaring insecure person :)

It's because when people are insecure or lack a response they start up with petty insults. You should just end the conversation right there because it's clear they aren't interested in an intelligent and sober discussion.
