I know that you probably are not very flexible. I am not flexible either and I do yoga all the time. It is helping me alot. Here are some simple yoga poses to help with lower back pain.

I must get back into yoga - I am one of the most physically inflexible people in the world ( I had two deep tissue massages by different people and both asked was I ever in a car crash when they were working on my back which I hadn't).
Anyway I digress yoga is not just for lithe 20 year olds who can tie themselves in double granny knots and still cook lunch. It is for all ages/expertise or flexibility. As take writer says you can do it at home or join a class (just one thing here pick a class that suits your level, you can move up with practice - If you reach too far and find it very tough, you might get disheartened )

This is EXTREMELY bad advice. People with a bad back would be strongly advised to not do any of these without a specialized doctor saying it's OK. A few are probably relatively safe if done carefully by easing into it a little at a time to find out how it affects you.
There is no such thing as an exercise that both works and is safe for everyone with a bad back. Too many people lump "bad back" into a single category as if it means just one thing. There are lots of things that can be wrong with a back, and there is no single exercise that works for all of them. It's rolling the dice to do these without a LOT of caution. If the dice rolls the wrong way, most of these can potentially be extremely harmful.
Well duh I thought it was common sense to not start an exercise program without the consent of your doctor.
I'm not used to seeing the English names of the poses. I try to remember them by their sanskrit names. Either ways it's problematic as there can be multiple names for a pose even in one language. Then it gets more confusing when there are similar poses and they only distinguish between them with a number or letter. Anyways, it's good that you included pictures.
How do you know that these poses are good for a bad back? Are you a yoga teacher?
I am not a yoga teacher but I did my research a lot of these poses I do regularly and I can honestly say they work
Ok, just checking. Those are some pretty good choices by the way. I think pigeon and thread the needle are more targeted at the hips but it's all connected and sometimes it helps to stretch nearby areas too.
One pose/exercise I find good for the back is spinal rocking. I find that it gives a nice massage to the back.

That's a very interesting pose I will have to work that into my routine.
I don't do yoga because I am a guy but that is a great take and I can see how they would work. :p
I know it is seen as girly but I 100% recommend it because it is really helpful
I do it when I have a bad back because I am on my feet all day but I do yoga regularly to help with mainly flexibility and posture.
I do yoga at least four times a week for at least a half hour every time. As I get better at yoga, I will be able to do more.
Because I'm a guy? Wtf? Is that even a thing in this world?
@YourFutureEx I am meaning most guys don't do Yoga which is true. That is all I am meaning.
haha it is often yoga which gives me low back pains but yeah, when you take it easy and do poses like these then that helps. down dog is excellent too if you bend at the knees, roll the shoulders in, bend the elbows slightly and tuck the head in.
I definitely incorporate these into my fitness routine, and they do help! My back is ok but my hips seem to be chronically tight! :-P
These poses actually work!! Especially my favorite, the Two Knee Twist!! 😄
I think doing some muscle building along with flexibility would help. Doing hyper extensions would really help someone if they want to prevent back pain.
I can barely sit in my chair upright because my back is so bad. How the hell am I supposed to do any of those poses?
You might want to see a doctor if you can't sit upright
YES! As a rower back streches are soooo important. Thanks for this take :)
Can you do one on strengthening your spine/back?
Do you want one on strengthening your back muscles or spinal flexibility?
I'm tempted to go to a yoga class. hmm.
