Plus Size is the New Thin!

Firstly I just want to start off with a bit about me so you can understand a little more. I’m a teenage girl who uses social media but I’m not obsessed, I rarely post for many reasons but I still have it to talk to “friends” and to look.

On to the topic at hand Plus Size Is The New Thin.

When I was younger early to mid-2000’s thin was in. You weren’t considered “it” if you weren’t a certain size. I don’t remember that bothering me though. I was young I didn’t care. I never wanted to look like a doll because they’re made out of plastic and aren’t meant to be real. That’s the point.

In the past few years being bigger has been more acceptable. I’m happy about this to a certain extent. I like not having to feel like a stick to be pretty even though I know for me I would need more than to be thin. That’s beside the point but I like the whole body acceptance movement going on.

I think it’s important for girls and boys especially girls because of the constant trends that change and being “it” changes. If you don’t accept yourself you can get lost within. However, I do feel like this is going too far. I don’t think glorifying unhealthy weights and body types are okay. Whether it is underweight or overweight. For example saying “I like them thick”, thick doesn’t have to mean obese.

I think we should accept ourselves but we should also try to get better. Take me, for example, I was a healthy weight for my size but I didn’t feel happy about it so I changed it. Before I lost weight I thought about why I was doing it. It was because I wanted to and I felt more comfortable being a smaller size. My breathing was better I felt happier, everything just seemed right.

My goal of writing this was to just ask whether or not you think this whole body positivity movement is going too far or do you think it’s not going far enough. Or are you in between, whatever you feel I would like to know.

*This also isn't to shame anyone you should love and accept yourself and your body. Just in healthy ways*
