There are multiple variables that can be factors. When it comes to influenza (the and stuff part of your question) plenty of people get vaccinations. Free vacines are covered by many insurance programs, you just have to run over to Walgreens or CVS for 15 minutes each year. As a result when everyone else has a cause of fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, hadaches, fatigue, and explosive diarrhea the person that planned ahead is enjoying life as usual. :) When it comes to other air born viruses such as the common cold, it comes down to the current state of their immune system. Are they eating healthy regularly? Are they happy with a good mood (free of emotional stress)? Are they well rested each night? Do they get exercise regularly as a healthy stresser? Do they get enough sunlight each day (Vitamine D)? Vitamin D deficiency not C is a major problem in modern society. When where they last sick? They may have gained partial immunity to a particular antigen or similar antigen. Are they a male or female? Women generally have more active immune systems due to specific hormone levels. Down the road they also suffer from more autoimmune diseases as a result of this condition. There are a lot of factors that come into play. If you'd like to know more, try reading an immunology textbook or participate in a free online class on the subject (MOOC).

nah, really though it's just a combination of things. Genetics, current health of immune system, past experience of immune system, temporary environmental factors, etc.
Yes it is immune system. Your immune system is the part of the body that fights to prevent illnesses in your body so you are exposed to all types of things on a daily basis but if your immune system is very strong you can usually not have to battle the cold or sickness. I also have a very high immune system and attributed it to never taking medicine unless I'm in chronic pain, but for cold or flu I never do and get over it in days with no medicine! Problems really arise only for illnesses that don't relate to immune system or are too big of a problem for it or even things that specifically attack immune system - like aids , most people don't realize this virus attacks the immune system so it is very weak and a lot of people die just from catching a common cold because they cannot fight it off. Stay healthy.
like others said it has to do with one's immune system. i have noticed that eating certain foods can help when you feel an illness coming on.

Some people have lower immune systems for instance I get sick once or twice a year because I have a fairly average to high immune system and others like my daughter have a really low immune system so it makes them a lot more prone to common illnesses and diseases and viruses sometimes
It's the immune system and I also think it's the conditions of the house that play apart. Like in some homes people don't wash their hands much, they have poor heating and the first person who gets the cold isn't quarantined or whatever it's called lol.
You're completely right. It's the strength of someone's immune system. I have a strong immune system, but my little brother doesn't. It depends on your genes if it's strong or not.
Some people have stronger immune systems, don't know why. I very rarely get ill, like maybe once a year tops. And I run in the rain, eat steak next to raw, undercook egg too often, etc...
