My wisdom teeth experience was pretty painful, but that's because I couldn't take pain killers (allergic).
Aside from that, though, it's a pretty simple routine. I got all 4 teeth pulled and was so dazed that I didn't remember it. The procedure took about half an hour and they wheeled me in a chair to my dad's car.
**immediately after you stand up after the procedure is over you may experience some nausea, so try not to throw up. You'll have gauze in your mouth that needs to stay in to allow the blood clot to form in the empty holes from where you teeth were pulled.
After I got home I had to change the gauze for the first 3 hours, and stop using them to allow the blood clot to stay in place.
**For the first 3 or so days you'll want to eat only soups, ice creams, or soft foods. Nothing that can rupture the blood clots. Also drink plenty of water to keep the clotting area (stitches) clean and NEVER spit, sip, or suck on a straw. You can brush your teeth, but try your best to not touch the clotting area and do not spit to rinse.
The swelling was horrible for me and didn't go down for about 8 or 9 days, and it got its worst on day 4. However, if you're able to take pain killers you should definitely do so, as that keeps the swelling down, which is where most of the pain I experienced was from.
**After the 4th day (or the day where the stitches start to feel loose or have partially dissolved) you may begin transitioning back into normal foods. You'll want to do so to prevent your jaw from tightening. Also purchase or acquire an irrigation syringe, and after every meal, snack, etc. rinse out the holes left after the stitches fell out -- this prevents build-up of food that falls into the cavity and possible infection.
All in all recovery lasts 1-2 weeks, however your mouth won't feel back to normal for quite some time. It's been 3 months since I had mine removed and my jaw still feels a bit odd.

It really depends how good of a doctor you have.
I had all 4 taken out (3 of which were impacted), and not only was I not in pain afterward, but my cheeks weren't even swollen and I could think just fine. Honestly, I could've gone back to school the same day, but I was like "nah!"
Not gonna lie though, I really missed normal food so it want all a walk in the park.
Here are my post wisdom teeth tips.
- Take Ibuprofen. It helps prevent/reduce swelling.
- Stay hydrated. It speeds up your recovery, and your throat and mouth will most likely feel dried out.
- Get popsicles and the good flavors of babyfood. (I would avoid icecream because dairy generally causes inflammation.) Do NOT eat solids before you're supposed to! It'll hurt and possibly get stuck in your gums/stitches.
- Make sure you maintain good hygiene in your mouth to ensure a quick and healthy recovery. If they give you instructions, follow them.
- Find a show/movies to watch, and maybe even a buddy to watch them with.
Good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine :)
I had my lower pulled in high school. That was all my insurance would pay for at the time. They gave me some novocaine and yanked it out while I was awake. The worst part was still being numb 15 hours later, which had me freaking out that they had damaged nerves.
I haven't had any major problems with the others yet. My upper left and lower right are both partially in. Upper right is still nowhere to be seen.
i got all4 taken out at the same time and i made the mistake of not getting my pain killers ASAP and i was in so much fucking pain for the next hour until i got my pain killers and then i took the pain killers and had to be in pain for another 20 min until they kicked in. get your pain killers ASAP before the numbness wears off.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out when I was 30. Two were impacted, two weren't. I had it done with local because I have a high pain tolerance level.
The older you are, the greater the inflammation, especially your lower jaw. So as soon as you get home, ice the area. If an ice bag is uncomfortable, you can get a bag of frozen peas or corn and use that as your ice bag. Because the pea or corn kernels are small, it molds to your face easily.
Two, take your pain meds around the clock the first day. After that try to space them out as much as you can. I found that ibuprofen worked better than vicodin, because it took care of both the pain and the inflammation. Since ibuprofen can hurt your stomach if taken on an empty stomach, try and have some warm tea and some soft rolls or soft food like jello, pudding or apple sauce before taking the ibuprofen.
Three, take it easy for a week or two. No gym, running or weight lifting. With all the extra blood flow and lowering your head to pick up weights for example, can pull on your stitches if you had impacted teeth removed.
Make sure you rinse your mouth every 3-4 hrs with chlorhexidine rinse to avoid infection.
Best of luck!!I had all 4 of mine taken out freshman year of high school b/c my mouth is pretty small so I had to get them removed before my braces could come off. They weren't grown in yet (at all) so the surgeon actually had to essentially break my jaw... I was obv. under general anesthesia lol. I had chipmunk cheeks for almost 4 weeks, leaving the house was a nightmare. I hated swallowing pills at the time so even though I was prescribed vicodin I don't think I ever took any of it and as a result was in a lot of pain, but that was my own fault. I had to clean the little drain things with a syringe of water and that was a horrid experience, I hate just thinking about it and that was almost 5 years ago now, ew. I think the worst part (besides the syringe) was getting my stitches removed. I didn't have the dissolving ones and my surgeon was really old and his hands shook like crazy while cutting/pulling them out it was so nerve wracking and uncomfortable omg. I did get to eat a lot of ice cream though!! hope I didn't scare you... this was just my experience lol
They injected me about 5 times with anesthesia because I wouldn't fall alseep, I guess they underestimated 5 ft. 1 inch me. The last few injections were straight to the hand probably so it'd kick in better (?). Meanwhile, the IV fluid was coarsing through my veins feeling like Wolverine from X Men when he gets the metal infused into his body. When I woke up hours later I was in a wheelchair in a nice little room with my parents. I told them about 10 million times with the same unyielding enthusiasm about how much the IV hurt, whilst falling into periods of extreme laughter. At home, the meds rubbed off and I spent more or less an hour in extreme pain waiting for the painkillers to work -- but hey I looked beautiful! Best temporary lip filler ever.
However, I couldn't eat anything good for a week, and I ended up having an allergic reaction to the medicated mouthwash they gave me; all over body hives for 2 weeks, and I scratched the space between my lip and nose raw. Almost had to cancel my Sweet 16, but I recouped.Depends on your situation. If your wisdom teeth are impacted then it's going to be a bumpy ride.
My teeth came in alright, weren't impacted, there just wasn't any room for them and so they had to go. I got the bottom ones taken out first, then the top ones a year or two later. It wasn't so bad... I opted for novocain rather than being completely put out.
There was pain, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. More than anything the issues were the pressure, needing more novocain, and hearing your teeth's roots being pulled out.. ugh. Not my favorite experience but again, I expected so much worse. Having a good and patient dentist helps a lot too, haha.
I napped afterwards so I wouldn't have to deal with my mouth being numb and bleeding... it only took a few days each time to really start feeling better. If you've got work or something you don't want to miss, you might want to do this at the end of the week so you have those few days to heal and relax. I took some mild pain killers and was fine honestly, and I just had to go easy on my gums when I ate.Hey, had my first wisdom tooth taken out about a month ago. :D The operation went fine, didn't feel a thing. But when the local anesthetic wore off, I could definitely feel pain. Lots of pain. It was even unbearable at one point. I should have taken a lot more painkillers than I did, so make sure to do that. That was my only mistake. Make sure to only eat soft foods the first few days. You don't have to live on soup if you don't want to, I managed to eat regular food right off the bat just fine as long as it was at least somewhat soft and as long as I chewed slowly and carefully. :)
My dentist told me to rest for a week (= no working out). That was because I had to let the stitches do their thing without straining them. You'll most likely get a sheet of paper with some basic instructions on it when you're done. You'll be fine!I got 4 of them out in a day.
I just hated the pain at times after words.
Putting ice and tasting my own blood.
And the fact that I looked like a chipmunk with a mouthful of nuts...
c1.staticflickr.com/.../...674398_0e22b10a31_z.jpgI was put to sleep during mine so I can't tell you what happened but they had to actually cut out the bottom two. & the right one was turned on its side & the dentist almost hit a nerve but I was okay. I had stitches that dissolved after maybe a week or so I think & I couldn't stretch my mouth open that wide for a few days (no cheeseburgers). They gave me Vicodin too. But this was like 5 years ago. Its not that bad.
Oh & they gave me laughing gas before they sedated me. That was fun.I had mine taken out with just a local anesthetic. The oral surgeon offered to put me under, but when I asked if that was absolutely necessary he said no. I was so numbed up I didn't feel a thing while he was taking them out. But since I was awake, I could HEAR what he was doing. (cracking, crunching. . .). About an hour after it was over the local started to wear off and there was some pain, but I had a prescription for pain medicine that made it not too bad.
its quite shoking but i took out 2 at age of13. i had painkillers, eat icream as much as u can and drnk lot of cold water, try to hv a cold padd towel or smthng similar t tht, im not sure if hospital will give u tht or nt, talk less, dnt open ur mouth so wide while talking or eating, chnge cottons or bndags evry 2 hrs, eat soup with grounded rice n it, can add some small cut vegies, so tht it can b rich in vitamins, by the way u can rest for 3r4 dys, hope i helped :)
I was asleep for it I think. Hurt like a bitch when I woke up, it was like being punched in the jaw with cinder blocks. Orajel and vicadin were my best friends that day.
I had all 4 removed at the same time, local anesthesia only. The worst part was the horrible taste in my mouth during the procedure. Other then that I didn't have any noticeable pain during the procedure or the healing process.
Guess I was lucky.Mine grew in fine, didn't need them taken out. Dentist lady is like "You got a big mouth!", my homegirl was like "she probably has a big ass fucking pussy."
Don't take the pills on schedule. I almost got hooked. I could feel a dependency developing 😂
I don't remember why but they put me to sleep so it was no big deal. I don't remember any post op pain.
It was as painful as sticking my dick into a meat grinder...
Mine took a few months to fully heal.
