Anyone else deal with this? If so, have you gone to the doctor?

For all my life i have suffered stomach problems (even as a baby to the point they took me off milk) and up until this past year they seemed to have bedded back down for a few years. Now, i feel like i'm getting a flare up every one to two months and even when they aren't as bad as ones from early childhood (think 6-10) i am still really concerned something is actually wrong here and i shouldn't be getting sick on a regular basis. A flare up ALWAYS (unless im just sick) starts with the usual eggy burp that lets me know i should cancel whatever i have planned and prepare for the worst in my bed. Next (if it isn't already there) i get pain in my true stomach that moves downward gradually over hours if i refuse to/can't vomit. I usually move my bowels during this period of the sickness and it goes from normal to almost diarrhea (i rarely ever get true diarrhea). If i end up not vomiting during the remainder of my sickness i notice the eggy burps go away on their own and instead of pain in my true stomach, it just goes lower and lower in my intestines until i have a really acidic, uncomfortable, loose bowel movement within six hours. After that i'm home free.
This can get really bad and the particularly unpleasant flare ups have made me afraid to eat a lot of things i've noticed trigger them (Dense meats, too much soda, very zesty stuff, cucumbers, ocra, etc). I try about everything in my power not to lay down too soon after eating, eat healthy and avoid triggers... Has anyone had this going on and gone to the doctor? Any ideas what it is?
