Why anorexia is more common in women than men?

It's like saying in other words that guys don't give a sh*t about their weight... after all obesity on the other hand is more common in men than women.

I'm not anorexic of course i weigh around 120-125 lbs (with 5'7" in height) most of the time and i try to keep myself at this weight... i don't want to be more than 130 lbs... but no less than 115 lbs.

ANyway the bottom line of this question is, why men don't care that much about their weight as women?

Because women are more pressured to be skinny than men are. It usually also just starts out as a diet that gets out of control too. For me, it's something I've been battling since I was 18 and I am now almost 28. It started out as cutting out foods, and watching what I eat and exercising. I am convinced that I need to have a perfect body because I have a very very ugly face. I've always known that the face is more important than the body, but I told myself that if I have an ugly face I might as well try to have a perfect body. So the diet kind got out of control, but it got worse when I ended up getting a giant ovarian cyst. I started to gain a lot of weight in my stomach for some reason, and I couldn't figure out why. So I got depressed and I started to starve myself. Also, I am a virgin so I knew I wasn't pregnant and so I just thought I was fat. I finally went to a doctor and I found out I had a huge cyst that had to be removed. That was a year ago, and I still feel like I don't look good even though I am skinny because my stomach isn't flat, plus I still have an ugly face. That cyst was in me for so long that it's made my stomach look funny and it won't go flat, and so I barely eat in hopes of getting it flat. I need a perfect body to make up for my face. That's all I have been really thinking about for the last ten years. Although I am starting to realize it doesn't matter if I am thin, because no man will ever want me just because of how hideous my face is. However, I still feel that at least I can control my weight even if I can't control my face.

Same type behavior can be seen in men who work out. Even though you might already be muscular and quite good looking, you still look in the mirror and think you're too small.

The general ideal appearance for a man is being muscular and the general ideal appearance for women is being skinny. All this comes from the media and celebrities.

I'm not saying that this is everyone's ideal appearance and it shouldn't be, but we humans are unfortunately genetically coded to follow general trends as a pack animal. Gladly there are exceptions and people are maybe starting to realize that there is no universal look that attracts all.

Because we are proud of the people we become physically and emotionally. For the most part. I'm not a fan of how I look but I do like the weight I am now. I'm 5'11 and in 175. According to a doctor chart I'm like 10 lbs overweight but that's ok. Until I was 28, I was 140, which is really underweight for someone my height so I was grossly skinny. I've found women are more interested to guys with meat that skinny guys

Sooo... have you seen an older skinny person? I have and it's not a pretty sight. As you get older you will put on weight. It's inevitable. Being skinny isn't neccessarilt a good thing. Just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they are 100% healthy.

depends on how much older...40 or 70? i think being skinny means you know how to keep yourself in shape. it's sad that when a man becomes 40 starts to put on weight especially if he was skinny in his youth. I've seen many pop or rock stars who were skinny in their 20s-30s and now that they are in their 50s or 60s have become fat and some of them have gone bald or have grey hair

it's a sad sight though... if i hit 60 i'd dye my hair or add hair if i lost them, and remain skinny... i don't want to end up looking a ridiculous old fat bald guy. btw, Mick Jagger is still skinny and he is 70+ and the late Lou Reed was skinny until his death at the age of 71... did you found them ugly?

Because the media and society tell women that their ideal body type is skinny, size 0. While being skinny is seen as bad trait for men. Society and the media tell men they shouldn't be skinny, that they need to be muscular. So guys are told to work out, lift weights, take supplements, and protein indulge. While women, are told to work out, run, take diet pills and diet. Fun fact: both can be bad if pushed to extremes. It's just that dieting can lead to restricting and eating disorders. Besides I know my brother and guy friends do care about weight, as in they doesn't want to be skinny or fat but in between or muscular.

Society, that's why. We unfortunately pressure women into being thinner and sexier, i. e. more "feminine", and from my understanding, women lose self-confidence over not being "ideal". Advertising is mostly to blame.

If you ask me, I don't mind what your body looks like, as long as you're healthy and happy.

Society's beauty standard for women is to be skinny, with a thigh gap and a flat stomach and what not. Wanting to achieve this standard, women often go to extremes. With men, however, the standard is to be big and muscular, which is not possible without a good nutrition. So women stop eating in order to be "beautiful", and men don't ))

Because guys usually wear baggy clothes to cover up their weight problem and society places sexiness on woman not on men, so men aren't expected to look a certain way as opposed to woman who are constantly scrutinized for their looks. Plus most designer make form fitting clothes or lack there of which show every curve.

Men do care about their weight a lot, but my theory is that women feel a lot more pressure due to the media. Even models who work their butts off are photo-shopped to look 20 pounds lighter than they really are, and I personally believe we're socialized to accept more flaws in men.

That is fine. If you won't change to appeal to women, than props to you. But I think you are missing my point. I am not talking about you specifically having muscles or not. I am saying that a majority of women are attracted to guys with muscles. And I can only assume that most guys care how women perceive them.

People who build muscle don't want to look like a girl's dream guy. They are just becoming more attractive, while also making themselves healthier. There is no way you can shame somebody for that. It's equatable to shaming a fat person for losing weight.

You say they lack self-confidence. Maybe that's true, but they have a reason for that, and they are actually doing something about it. And again, building muscle is a healthy way to be more attractive. It's not like they are starving themselves or getting plastic surgery.
