I'm getting some of my teeth cut out of my gums. I'm really scared since this is the first surgery I've had since I was 4 years old. For any one who's had this done or knows someone: How bad did it hurt afterwards? How long will it hurt after the surgery? I know that you look swollen and bruised afterwards, but how bad is it?

Are they wisdom teeth? The big molars at the back of your jaw?

My wisdom teeth removal was not too bad. There was some pain, swelling and bleeding for a few days afterwords. But it wasn't bad. They gave me painkillers, and I used an ice pack for the swelling.

Before they do the procedure, ask the dentist to explain what he or she will be doing to you. They're usually glad to give you a summary so you understand, and so your anxiety is reduced. They might also have a brochure you can read, with tips for how to take care of yourself afterwords.

I'm thinking this is a wisdom tooth surgery?

Ok, I had this in May 2008. The only part I was concerned with was the needle they give to sedate you.

That's it. For me, I felt no pain at all after the surgery, I went home right away without rest after they did my surgery. In fact, I remember wanting to go to the mall the same day.. Except my whole mouth was bloodied. It was frustrating not being allowed to eat the food I want and not being allowed to brush my teeth. It takes 30 minutes to do by the way.

Anyway, most likely you'll be fine within 3 days at the most. If you're lucky, you won't feel pain like me.

Are you having your wisdom teeth removed? It's not that bad. I had no pain, swelling or bruising at all...I think that might be uncommon though. The only things that bothered me was the gauze that they packed into my mouth to stop any bleeding, and that it was a little difficult to eat the first week.

it sounds more scary than it is! it didn't hurt while getting it done..after it was over..the pain started..but not so much1 only for like 2days! you'll live!

oh its not bad they just put your under and you don't feel a thing just some numbness when you wake up.

wisdom teeth give many problem if it doesn't comes out properly. so it is better to removal of wisdom teeth. there is a little surgery that will be done with in 2 hours.

It is really not that bad. They give you pain medication and you just have to eat soup for a couple of days. I think swelling depends on the person, I didn't swell bad at all but my friend did.
