How to deal with a father who drinks a lot?

Title says it all!.. my dad who is 57 yo drinks a lot and he already has diabetes due to his drinking habits and he seems not to give a fuck about it.. his elder and younger bros have died because of their alcohol intake but he keeps on drinking together with his younger bro and his cousins.. and when he comes back at home from work he is drunk like a pig... and i often fight with him because i'm angry when he arrives home all drunk... my mom and my bros told him to stop but he doesn't.. how to deal with it? help please?

he might needs a big change in his life. a long vacation and lots of support from his family. substance abuse is a sign of being unable to deal with a current reality. if ure father has an addictive personality the only way to let go of the addiction is cold turkey and going to AA meetings. Unfortunately he needs to be willing to do this by himself with ure support. Casting more blame on him will only make him more miserable. Alcoholism is a disease that needs treatment.

The understanding needs to come from you, he feels everyone is against him and no one understands him and his problem which he knows he has thanks to everyone telling him, but who will try to understand him

we do understand him but why is he not willing to make an effort to change things.. why drinking when he know that it will make things worst... and also whenever we go to weddings or any party or familial events he is the one who will get drunk and who will talk a lot of nonsense

Its the remedy for anxiety, some smoke, some pop pills, but its basically the anxiety of dealing with anger and people and situations, and sadness, its not having the tools to deal with things so you turn to the alternative which is only temporaey,"i know its a problem but it helps me deal with the problem"understand?

I'm in the exact same boat. My dad is also a 57 year old alcoholic and his brother has died from liver failure due to alcoholism.

How I deal with it? I let him do his thing. I just don't get involved.

Get the family together & have an intervention.

to do some therapy or something? we have suggested him to do so but it vain.. he is not interested and his "excuse" is that "i drink with my money.. not yours"
