How do I effectively get someone to stop smoking around me? I cannot stand second hand smoke!?

This is about dealing with someone whom I live with. I asked him a billion times to stop smoking around me and in the house! And that I have quit smoking I don't want to inhale that poison in my lungs anymore! I tried asking him politely that didn't work. I tried using coercion and intimidation that only worked for a few months but he started it up again. My mother screams at him not to do it either he won't listen to nobody. What should I do? Hide his cigarettes, flush them down the toilet I am very irritated with his stubbornness.

Do you own the house? If you're both room-mates, perhaps ask him to only smoke in his room or out on the porch. If he doesn't comply, the only thing you can do is probably just find a new roommate. You could try introducing him to electronic cigarettes. They smell fruity and aren't harmful at all. It's just steam, and it lacks the 4,000 dangerous chemicals in cigarettes. Oh, you're attempting to quit. I entirely support electronic cigarettes. Don't buy the cheap ones, they're shit. You have to clean them every once and awhile--don't drop them or lose them; but, they work like a charm. You spend a bit more up front, but you actually save money in the long run, juxtaposed to cigarettes. $50 a month for me, versus $230 I spent on cigarettes a month.

If you hide or flush his cigarettes, all that is going to do is piss him off further, and maybe he'll just start blowing smoke right in your face. You don't want to create more tension and aggression. Attempt to disarm the situation by telling him exactly how you feel (in a nice tone, without being accusatory), and how his smoking bothers you, so could he please either smoke in his room or on the porch?

I think the first step should be trying to get him to only smoke in his room. Even if it still bothers you, it shows progress, and perhaps at a later time you can ask him to smoke. The worst thing you could do is become aggressive or insulting to him. Like I said, that'll just piss him off and make him want to smoke in front of you more.

The only thing you can do with someone like that is to move out, and refuse to be around them.

My father smokes and I live with him me and my mother both hate it and so does my brother who lives with us and has not smoked in 6 days and it's very hard for him so it makes it even harder for him but my father smoking has really done bad for our father daughter relationship and I hate it but over time I have learned to forget about it because there is really nothing you can do but be successful in school and eventually move out that is my plan because all you can do is do you you can't do anyone els

Figure out whatever is equally as repulsive to him and go do it near him whenever he's smoking until he stops.
