Well maybe the best thing would be to start with yourself first, no offense. Set an example by taking control of your eating habits so that proves to him that it is possible and just might make him motivated to eat right. Plus if you cook a lot you make the decision of what you guys will be eating so he doesn't have a choice. As for the working out part you guys should also do this together. It doesn't have to be anything big just go out for walks. Start off like every other day for like 10 minutes and then work it up to everyday for 15 minutes and possibly further than that such as bike riding and swimming, etc. To him the idea of eating really healthy and working out a bunch seems like too big of a task to handle, especially when you feel you are alone, so when you put into baby steps it seems so much easier. Not only will he lose some weight and be healthier but you guys will grow closer. I like it when I take walks with my mom because she is always busy so it gives us time to relax and catch-up in each others lives. I really hoped this helped :)

Go out to eat at healthy places. Bring him salads to encourage him, with some steak on the side :) (healthy). Both of you go to the gym, so you workout together, there's way more motivation in some people when they work out together cause you can encourage eachother... Oh but first off, start with NO POP! only water, orange juice icetea drinks like that... no pop, no excuses.
i was going to say get him to ride a bike but at 300 lbs that might not be a good idea , maybe need to try and keep him away frm fast food places , like instead of the local burget place go to subway instead and so on , also try and go on at least 1-2 walks a day with him , that might also help , like instead of taking the bus walk there instead .
