Is giving up junk food a bad idea?

Well today I decided to give up junk food and wondered if it was a bad idea. So I asked here, on the internet!

Yes, it is.

No, it isn't.

If you're doing it as part of a way to eat healthier, than you should only give it up if you can substitute it for a healthy treat that you find equally satisfying... otherwise, you may find it incredibly difficult to have faith in your new eating habits... and it'd be harder to reach your nutritional goals.

It's all about motivation.
Junk food offered you something to give you instant satisfaction... and that motivated to stick to an unhealthy diet
A healthy alternative that can also provide that instant satisfaction is needed to stick to a healthy diet. :)

not really you will be healthier for it and are probably going to live longer because there is a lot of crap in junkfood. But its ok to like have it every once in a blue moon because everyone has cravings and completely restricting yourself from something usually leads to people crashing sometimes and binging which is no bueno.

Yes it's prob best idea of your life. wonder why your so lathargic and drained of energy all the time? Look up what's in fast food, most of it isn't even food, it's mostly fillers so they can make moneytry eating fresh organic meals for two weeks and I guarantee you'll not only feel a huge difference but your skin will be clearer, you'll have more energy, just a better feeling of self worth, oh and drink a lot of water and juice, try and stay away from energy drinks and soda.:)

If you get into it now, you'll never regret it. I used to be slightly obese a few years ago, done my research and ate right, went to the gym, now I'm In better shape than 98 percent of the people I know. You'll be having guys crawl all over you. what would you rather have, a guy that slops down on a bigmac and fries everynight or a man that can cook a delicious homemade meal from fresh ingredients? I'm not saying I don't eat some food that isn't bad for me, it's a lot more expensive to eat right, expecially when you can get a mcdouble for a $1. But I don't eat any fast food. A donut in the mornings maybe, but just in moderation.

The only cons to giving up junk food are:

1) cost [ junk food is very cheap; healthier food costs more overall ]

2) the taste of it (junk food tastes unnaturally good... because it's taste is artificially boosted with chemicals and additives )

If ur budget can handle the extra cost, and you can "control your tongue" by not giving in to eating junk food all the time... then do it!

That depends on what you're willing to eat. If you're happy to eat lentils and dried beans and only buy vegetables that are affordable it should be cheaper than living off chocolate and hamburgers... but think what you will.

@Bysshe the cost is time as well as money... forgot to mention that.

Countless times I've seen people eat a lot of take out and junk food because it's quick and easy.

I personally like home cooked, fresh foods in which I control the ingredients (as u prolly do as well)... and I feel the time investment is worth it. 8-)

No it's not especially if you are looking to lose weight. I had to give it up too and rarely eat it now. Your body will start feeling better too once your body adjusts to not having junk food.

Replacing all sort of junk food with healthy food isn't a bad idea at all.. Will get you fit, more healthy of course which is acutally why people should do it in the first place.. and then. looks etc etc

the key is to eat LESS. i lost 130 lbs, and i consumed junk food often, during the diet

Well, I guess because I would lose a lot of weight. (I'm not fat, I am average for my height etc.)
