I have seen and watched death. I don't think I obsesses over it, but I definitely fear some more than others.
I'm going to allow Anon answers which I am principled against, but want the input.
Your turn!
I chose Alzheimer's because this is a slow debilitating condition. We lose our loved ones before they actually die. Losing my mental cognizance, not remembering my friends, unable to recognize family is what I consider a cruel slow death. I think I prefer being run over by a Mack truck far more kindly.
Yes heart disease ranks amongst the top killers, but we have better control over heart conditions than Alzheimer's. Eat right, exercise, have regular check ups, follow doctors' advice, take your medications religiously, and stay socially active and we may have better control over heart ailments.
You will probably get a variety of answers and many of them will be slanted by age groups.
Nevertheless it would be great if we could stop these diseases from taking lives, particularly those affecting young people.
I would also add breast cancer to your list. This is a scourge on women and it affects 100% of our population.
Yeah I was unspecific about the cancers because that'd a poll by itself.
thx!
Most lysosomal storage diseases. Variable age of onset, serious symptoms, no cure and rare enough to make local support groups almost impossible to find. The irony is that I actually work with patients with some of these diseases. If anyone here doesn't have the faintest idea what I'm referring to, this short video might be a good introduction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61DRmSFgSFAI'm afraid the vid was too complicated for me. How does it fit with the question, in plainer English please? :)
They're a group of about fifty rare inherited diseases that cause severe and progressive damage to most organ systems in the body, but most prominently the brain. Infants who show symptoms usually die within a few years. Those who present later progress more slowly, but still meet the same end. The majority are untreatable. All of these diseases are incurable and fatal.
That's awful. thanks for your input.
Are you a med pro?
There are no words to describe how these disorders affect patients and families. As for me, my work is on the psychological side- particularly in psychopathology, psychotherapy and identification of specific mutations (changes in the genetic code that disrupt healthy bodily function) causative of these disorders that tend to show psychiatric symptoms in the clinical picture. For example, the p. G269S mutation in the HEXA gene results in a milder form of Tay-Sachs Disease that presents in adolescence or adulthood. In my experience and review of hundreds of studies and case reports in the empirical literature, psychiatric symptoms are common in patients with this particular mutation. In fact, psychiatric symptoms are even more prominent in those patients with this same mutation and unstable social or intimate relationships
i think Alzheimer's because if you have ever seen someone go through it you realize its much more than just forgetting memories... it can eventually lead to you forgetting how to walk and breathe, and thats terrifying. plus, anybody on the outside is also hurt by watching this person lose their dignity and sense of self, and perhaps the most upsetting thing in my opinion is being forgotten. like imagine somebody that you're extremely close to forgetting who you are... if my dad ever got alzheimer's and one day didn't recognize me... my heart would break and i would be sad forever...
We took our great granma back to her birthplace in northern France when she was 81 or so and suffering from AZ. We thought it might help but it didn't.
On the positive side I can tell you all some pretty funny stories that are Az related,
I guess the good news about Alzheimer's is thatou make new friends every day! 😞
Also AZ is usually pain free.
Actually, I used to be dead scared of getting AIDS in my childhood as I'd heard you could get it through blood transfusions too. But now that my misconceptions are cleared, even though heart disease and cancer are deadly, I am more scared of Alzheimer's coz it makes you lose your real personality. I would hate that. I'd rather die young and happy than lose my thinking capacity totally. My heart reaches out to all those affected by it! I wish God gives their souls the strength to face all that they do, and to their families too.
Nice!
Thx.

You know if the option comes at old age, i would choose Alzheimers cause the memories are all i left. but the memories came from young age, so now i don't wanna got any visual disorder, cause i don't wanna miss a sight on any beautiful things or attractive ladies, but the time i born i don't wanna get a senility just like benjamin and even i'm blind or not doesn't matter cause i don't get any girls.
On the whole , i will eventually get the Alzheimers and it will raid out my brain but it doesn't bother me at all if the memories are so pessimistic and i wish i'm blind at youth.
Cluster headaches...
"The pain of a cluster headache is often described as sharp, penetrating or burning. People with this condition say that the pain feels like a hot poker being stuck in the eye or that the eye is being pushed out of its socket.
People... may pace or sit through the attack... usually avoid lying down during an attack because this position seems to increase the pain."
I saw this guy on some science channel go through an attack, and I honestly have no idea how this guy has the guts to keep waking up every day. It's not lethal, but often described as one of the most painful experiences ever felt.
Alzheimer's and dementia. My grandma went through it and it killed me, to wake up, say good morning to her, and look at everyone else asking who this little boy was.. yet she'd still go in the backyard and pick, peel, and cut oranges for everyone. Hm..
Alzheimer's, my mom has early-onset. What sucks is that she knows her mind is going, there's no cure and she can only wait. Her brain is functioning enough to see people that have it and process how fucking horrible it is, and it's only a matter of time until she's there. At least there's some comfort to her in knowing that once her mind is gone, it won't really matter since she'll not be aware of her misery anymore. Her family grows more irritated by her by not fault of her own and it just stresses everyone out like hell.
It's especially scary for me because I apparently have a higher risk (parent has it, mental illness). I have been trying to make lifestyle changes in an effort to lower the risk. Seeing her has changed my outlook on life because I know it can happen. With cancer or some other physical illness, at least you can control your mind to be happy.
I do fear Alzheimer's disease can you imagine not knowing
where your at , what your eating, you remember peoples faces
but forget names.. My late maternal grandma passed away from it
all of her brother/ sisters passed away from it.. Her sister lived from
age 78 to age 92 in nursing home , so sad to think all them years
not having your mind
My paternal grandfather and all his brothers
passed with Congestive Heart Failure
While colon cancer and diabetes runs in my family I'm going with Althimerz because it's extremely hard. Very saddening to see someone who you love dearly go through it... It broke my heart when my great grandma couldn't remember me. She had a mini stroke 2 weeks before she passed and diterated from there.. I miss her everyday and she was the most sweetest and nice people I could ever have met and I had the privilege to call her granny
Heart disease is the number one killer with COPD and diabetes following in second and third. All three of these diseases are hugely misunderstood.

Crippling accident. I'm not sure if I'd want to live if I couldn't move freely. (I'm not talking about an arm or something). More like paralysed. That sounds cruel, but sport&social stuff is a to damn big part of my life. Not sure I could do without it.
Yeah. totally fear that.
Alzheimer's disease and dementia. My grandpa had it and yeah it was really painful to see the person whom I lobed so much forgetting, like, everything and everyone. He grew way too violent too which is completely not like him since he's the most peaceful person I know.
I have heard of that. :(
Multiple Sclerlosis. Fucking terrifying. You are still there mentally, but your body's electrical system is screwed up and you gradually lose all ability to move.
Anything that will leave me defective and/or deformed, but still alive. I don't care if I get something that kills me, as long as it doesn't leave me having to wear diapers or in a wheel chair the rest of my life.
I don't fear stds because I am not sexually active and even when I am it's with one person but it's extremely rare for me to have sex. I fear that medical condition where your body turns into stone, of course not literally but I heard about it on tyra
I never thought about that. Don't fear dying or catching a medical condition. I'm really surprised that heart disease is the #1 killer because it's rarely talked about when compared to cancer.
Yeah. Breast cancer affects mostly women, hence the attention.
Testicular cancer, a 100% male disease is totally ignored.
We live and virtually die via the media.
If it affects women, it affects men also.
Testicular disease is not as common as other cancers. You can snip them (ouch) and still live with testosterone supplements. Breast cancer maims, disfigures and kills!
Some cancers are worse than others for sure. Even breast cancer is very survivable if caught early.
heart diseases run in the family. my mother has problems with her heart and my father died at 49 of his 3rd heart attack so I have ample reasons to fear this
Heart disease kills more men and women than all the other diseases put together.
I mean I'm all for Pink, but it's relevancy is media overstated.
I completely agree with you. the bad thing is both my parents are in the medical industry. my dad was specifically in the cardiology field
Crippling accident or Alzheimers. I want to be able to function to my fullest ability, & those two would make it the most difficult. Well, I guess cancer would also make it difficult, & could potentially lead to death... so maybe cancer.
I really fear having Alzheimers when I am an elderly woman. So it is really important in our younger year/youth to eat healthly why you can and try to avoid eating tons of aluminum canned foods.
"Locked in syndrome". The concept of being awake and aware but entirely unable to interact with the outside world truly scared the hell out of me.
I never even thought of that.
Thx!
I honestly do not fear death. However, I do fear anything that could potentially leave me mentally or physically crippled.
I am so with you. Losing life quality is a deal breaker for most adults.
Kids can take it better, unil they get a little older and start to suffer the BS of few friends and fewer good friends.
I picked alzheimer's. It's so sad when the brain is gone but the body lives on. The people who love you suffer the most.
Thank you. You post like you care.
Crippling accident for sure. I'm not afraid of dying, I'm afraid of wanting to die and not being able to do anything about it.
