Anyone had Circumcision for Phimosis (tight foreskin)?

My boyfriend is 19 and has phimosis (his foreskin is too tight for those who don't know). He has done stretches to make this workable before, but even so it often causes him discomfort and sex is not always possible. We love each other very much, are always safe, and sex is an important romantic and expressive part of our relationship so this frustrates him and he has decided that he wants to take the doctor's advice and be circumcised. I am worried for a number of reasons. Primarily because I love him so much I'm worried something will happen to him during the operation. Is it a risky one? Then I wonder if it will even work and will be all for nothing. Also I know he will probably be unable to have sex or even be aroused for a long while afterwards which will be difficult. This all seems like stress and worry.
Has anyone had it done? Did it work?

I'm really sick and tired of the medical profession these days... In my experience, medical professionals are often very hasty about cutting stuff off: "Oh, you should have your wisdom teeth pulled because they MAY cause problems (I have been told they would definitely cause me problems, which they didn't); Toenail infected? Have it permanently removed so that it doesn't grow back; Foreskin tight? Chop it off.” Tonsils or appendix, acting up? Cut them out, because heaven forbid we should try just treating them with antibiotics first. Most of this “remove it cuz it's bad” theory comes from outdated flawed research, yet doctors continue plowing forward without bothering to revisit age old ideas to see if they were ever really sound ideas to begin with. It shouldn't surprise you then to find that circumcision fits right in with this standard cut-first-ask-questions-later backward thinking. The same doctor your bf went to would have probably recommended circumcision before even considering stretching techniques or a dorsal slit (splitting the foreskin at the top side of the penis so that it cannot constrict the head). In the vast vast majority of cases, circumcision is pointless at best, and this is true even with phimosis. I mean, if guys can even restore their entire foreskin through stretching (I'm currently doing this), simply loosening a tight foreskin is much less of an undertaking. My guess without further info is that your bf is upset at his foreskin and threw in the towel too quickly, with the doctor being more than happy to help that defeat along.

I used to have phimosis but I managed to stretch it out successfully. I think the key is that a gentle stretch over a long period of time is better than a really hard stretch for short periods. If you stretch it too hard you can cause more damage which will tighten the opening even more when it heals. If you can find an object that fits the opening well enough to provide a gentle stretch and leave it in overnight it does much more good (provided it's hygienic). A lot of people use those flesh tunnel things, the plugs people use to stretch out their ear piercings. They're nice because they're smooth, plastic and they come in graduate sizes so you can step up a size as you stretch the opening wider.

There are also powerful steroid creams (betamethasone) that doctors can prescribe to make stretching easier and more effective.

From what I've read, circumcision carries about a 2% risk of complication and complications are almost never life threatening. It's not something I recommend but it is one of the oldest surgical procedures known to man. It's not like a heart transplant.

Sexually, he'd probably be out of commission for at least a few weeks, I would think.

I have a very mild form of phimosis, which means I can have sex and clean without any problem. I was also adviced to stretch instead of circumcision, but since its not necessary for me I just have one question: Which feels better? Phimosis sex or regular sex?

I mean, whats the difference with blowjobs, handjobs, sex and is it better after you stretched?
Do you last as long as before or maybe longer?

Can he actually completely retract his foreskin, or does it get stuck midway? He is supposed to be able to pull it back completelx, which should not be difficult if he cleans himself underneath the foreskin regularly once a day during shower.

If he has been doing that and he still has this condition then indeed circumcision is the way to go as the medical procedure. I have not had myself circumcised as I had no problem with the foreskin at all, but as I picture it, it is possibly a bit of a hassle, and sexual activity is completely out of the question until it heals. Guys do get erections during the night during the REM cycle, so if erections cause a problem, be prepared for that.

But, I don't know enough about phimosis, so I hope someone else on this site does.

You need to do some foreskin-stretching exercises daily for a while.. this will loosen things up nicely. Use a penis health crème for moisturization and skin protection and things will go smoothly and quickly. You can get a crème like this online. Hope this helps.

A friend of mine got circumcised for a certain kind of phimosis that meant stretching etc were impossible. He said the recovery was much quicker than he expected, and his sexual feeling was no better or worse afterwards, just different.

Most of is in the US have that done as newborns without our consent. I'm sure the surgeon will be able to handle it pretty easy. I don't lack much sensation, American's have plenty of sex and nearly all the men are circumcised.

Well the foreskin is there for a reason. When you dont have one the nerves in the head will become less sensitive and he will enjoy sex less.
