Unfortunately, I gained weight, but I'm not fat, just a little chubby. However, my sister is still skinny. And she's very tall at 5'11", and I'm average at 5'6".
How can I get my figure back?
Your metabolism does a bit of dictating to your body. Simply put you may never attain your skinniness like as a teen.
I like you inherited the tiny body. I love it, but wonder if my boobs will ever appear. :)
I modeled for almost 15 years so I learned professionally what and how much you eat means.
I learned to couple exercise with careful food choices. Diets typically fail because they are not natural and often discount age, childbirths, genes, etc.
Exercise, watch what and how you eat, never crash diet. Love your body no matter what. Just do not allow obesity. (30 lb. or more overweight) That is seriously difficult to reverse.
Your sister is still very skinny because of her height. Being taller means your body has to work harder than a short person's body to function (being of similar body type of course).
The easiest way for you to lose weight is just be making your portion sizes smaller, not eating after 8pm can help, and just make sure you are on your feet during the day. You don't even have to work out, as long as you are upright and doing something. Shouldn't be too hard since you are already healthy, you just want to be skinnier, which is all good.
I tend to get hungry at night, but it's not as bad as it was last year.
How can I avoid this? I usually drink milk instead of eating because milk fills me up fast.
I also go to college, so I'm constantly walking around.
Before I answer this, how much food do you eat already, how many times a day and what do you eat?
Breakfast: A fiber one bar
Lunch: Iceberg salad with cucumbers, cheese, and ranch with three glasses of water
Dinner: Same as lunch
My sister is in college (university) too. Since you require the most amount of energy then, eat your biggest meal during that part of the day.
How to get over cravings? Start eating less and less of that food at the time you usually eat it and eventually, you won't desire it as much or at all.
So eat the most at breakfast, right?
And how can I avoid hunger at night?
Maybe you don't eat enough during the day and are eating too much of the wrong things (thus why you gained weight) OR you eat slightly too much but your brain has being trained to want more food than you need.
Which one of these is more likely then I can answer your question :)
Sometimes it's both, but it's more like the first one :)
That one is easier to solve :) Since you do most of your walking due from college in the morning, have a big breakfast. What food do you currently often have for breakfast? For lunch, have a full sandwich, and switch up what's on it. What do you usually have for dinner? Have water with every meal.
I usually eat a Fiber One bar for breakfast.
For lunch and dinner I usually eat an iceberg salad with cheese, cucumbers, and very little ranch, since it's fattening.
I try to drink more water throughout the day, but I worry about having to get up to pee in the middle of class.
You are not eating enough honey. You are literally putting your body in survival mode which is why you have gained some weight as your body is storing it as you are not eating enough for your body to function properly (then your body uses the weight if stores as energy). So you are undernourished.
For breakfast, you need to be having something filling such as porridge, great source of fibre, and cut up some fruit to put on top of it. Most fruit contains both soluble and in-soluble fibre
Okay I won't get into the science of food... let me continue
OMG I'm so glad somebody told me this!! I had no idea I was eating too little.
Is porridge the same as oatmel? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question.
And I gained two pounds :(
For lunch, really, have a whole grain sandwich with protein on it, whether it's fish, chicken or corn beef, just please eat something. Have spinach (iron), cucumber slices and tomato at least on the sandwich as well. And get the idea of fat being bad for you out of your head. Fat is very important for your diet as it assists in giving the body the energy needed to function efficiently so put a noraml amount of salad dressing on it. Have a banana or other piece of fruit or handful of nuts as a snack.
For dinner, make sure to have the three estentials: protein, carbohydrate and salad/vegetables. Even if eating pizza (which is fine in moderation + there are healthier options), have a salad as a side. A meal example for dinner is sliced chicken breast and two legs, one microwaved/baked potato with butter, and a salad on the side with at least Spinach, cucumber and tomato.
Every meal is suppose to fill you so, but don't overeat.
Sounds good!! :)
Thanks for the help.
I have some bananas, strawberries, and grapes.
I just ate a fiber one bar with a few strawberries for breakfast.
Not stupid at all, I'm Aussie so we call it porridge but it's the same as oatmeal. It's very easy breakfast and also very good for you.
Thanks!! :)
And with saying all of this, you don't have to keep to this 'strict' diet, I go out for dinner or lunch and sometimes don't even have a salad with my meal. It's all fine in moderation and a little too much fat one day won't hurt you, as long as you keep mostly healthy. I'm probably around 90% healthy eating, 10% more fatty foods. And I'm fit and skinny, so is my mum and we eat the same things.
Awwww that's awesome!! :)
So it's possible to be overweight but undernourished? I only thought really skinny people were undernourished.
Your body can react like that (gaining weight) if you don't eat enough (survival mode). Doesn't happen to everyone. If you kept going how you are though, you would be getting skinnier when that survival fat is used up, but you won't be healthy.
The problem is I'm not getting skinnier.
It doesn't happen overnight darl. Or or you mean you are getting bigger?
I gained two pounds... Seems like I'm gaining and not losing anything.
Will I be like this forever?
No milk isn't bad. How else am I supposed to get vitamin D?
The low-fat kind isn't bad. And I need it with my cereal!!
Even when I wasn't drinking milk, I was still the same weight. So cutting out milk doesn't help either.
Oh there is definitely nothing wrong with a bit of milk in your diet. And you get vitamin D naturally from being in the sun, thought I mentioned this?
If you are eating healthily and you keep gaining weight, then I would see a professional because if you have followed what I said correctly like you have, you would be losing weight and not gaining it :/
It's funny how people say sun exposure causes skin cancer...
What professional do you suggest I see besides a nutritionist, dietitian, and my own doctor? None of them aren't helping!!
I'm just going to forget the whole weight loss thing... I guess being chubby isn't so bad.
Thank you :)
I'll try fasting... I know different ones work for different people.
Sun exposure doesn't cause cancer. It can cause skin cancer to occur but it is more likely with some people more than others. My mum has spent her whole working life in the sun and she has never had skin cancer.
Oh thanks for the clarification :)
Are you sure you are of an unhealthy weight? What is your waist measurement and how tall are you?
I'm 5'6" and I weigh 175 lbs. Don't know what my waist measurement is.
Okay you are definitely over the weight you should be. I'm 5'8 and weigh 126lbs and look healthy. Maybe it's your metabolism that is out of whack. Perhaps you use to eat more unhealthy foods when you were skinny so when your metabolism slowed down from this frequent exposure without exercising enough, it has caused you to have more difficulty losing weight. (this is a theory of course)
Or there could be something in your diet that you eat too much of that is causing the weight to gain? How much cheese you eat or soft drinks>?
It's definitely the first one... My metabolism is definitely slow. I don't know how I'm going to make it fast again.
Also, I forgot to mention that when I was around 10 or 11, I was slightly under weigh, loosing too much. My doctor told me to gain like 10 lbs. Maybe I started eating too much unhealthy foods and it took over.
I used to drink soda everyday, but now I drink it once every three weeks.
I really don't eat cheese either.
Least I know why you are gaining weight now XD the only way you will be able to lose weight now is to attempt to quicken your metabolism. You will need to do more exercise for this to happen, and eat foods that can help quicken your metabolism such as bananas (look it up on the net and you will find a few). Yeah, the fact you were underweight then quickly began eating to much would have really slowed your metabolism.
keep eating healthily and do more exercise. keep in contact wtih me about how it goes!!!
Sounds good to me. Thank you!! :))
take it one day at a time. I don't exercise but in just over a year lost nearly 25lbs just from watching how often I ate and cut back on junk food. I still ate cookies and snacked but mainly when I noticed some time has passed where I haven't.
the thing is 150lbs on someone 5'8 doesn't look nearly as bad as the same 150lbs on someone who's 5'1 and there's nothing you can do about height. My advice stands and just take things slow don't starve your self but keep an eye on over eating and maybe go for walks in the summer.
I don't care about my height...
It's fall where I live at anyways. And I walk up and down lots of stairs when I'm at university
I barely eat junk food, so that's good.
:P sorry if I touched a nerve there. I'm 5'1 and was just giving my point of view.
There are quite a few YouTube videos you can look at and see what works for you.
www.youtube.com/results
You didn't, so don't worry :)
And thanks for the link!!
Yep :)
The healthy way to get thinner:
Watch your food intake - eat healthy
exercise a lot.
And don't expect instant results, I lost 23kg in one year and don't get a single kg back, because i changed my eating & exercising habits. I made it a routine.
If you start doing these crash course diets, and hardly eat anything and work out a lot for like a week. You can lose 5kg in one week and you'll regain 6kg the week after cuz you feel starved and start eating like crazy.
Yeah that's not what I want.
Here's what I eat on weekdays:
Breakfast: Fiber One bar
Lunch: Iceberg salad with cucumbers, cheese, and a little bit of ranch and three glasses of water.
Dinner: Same as lunch
Oo that's barely anything at all.
Drinking (a lot) of water helps your body to refreshen itself and cleanse away all the bad stuff.
Maybe you should try drinking more water. I read you drink a lot of milk as well, but there's actually a lot of calories in milk, unless you are drinking fat-free milk.
Another way to prevent you from eating when you feel hungry, is brushing your teeth. Especially if you use mint toothpast, you'll feel less hungry and even if you do eat it will taste bad because of the mint toothpaste so you'll eat less.
I only drink milk at night, just one cup of vitamin D kind.
Fat-free milk contains more sugar than full fat milk. Full fat milk is better for you anyway and it's a natural, healthy amount of fat.
You get Vitamin D from being in the sun, your body naturally produces it that way, it's better than the manufactured crap lol
Lol yeah :)

Eat brussel sprouts.
You have to eat healthy and exercise too, of course, but I find brussel sprouts are really good snack foods. They're really low calorie (45 cal for 6) and are also really filling. I saute them in butter which probably takes some of the health factor away but it just leaves a thin coating and it tastes good so... :)
Tomato juice is my secret :o... I drink a lot of low sodium v8 vegetable juice. I don't eat a lot of meat and I eat a ton of raw spinach. No fruit until you've lost the weight. Eggs are also good as a substitute for meat. I do eat greek yogurt (honey peach), but that is usually in a shake of spinach, yogurt, and water and aloevera.
its very easy if it is in your genes just keep a charge on diet as per my brother and me are maintained enough bcoz it is in our genes that even if we eat junk we are ok with the health so yes its a plus point for u also u dont have to work hard
I agree :)
yes i know
Yep!!
Cardio plays a big part in thinning out. Also, take a look at what you eat and how much of it. Your appetite will go up when you increase physical activity, this is normal, just don't over do it
OK thank you!! When my hunger increases, how can I tame it to make sure I'm not overeating?
Yeah so which ones fill up the quickist?
not a matter of which are the quickest. If you don't balance your intake properly, you can do more harm then good. Leptin is meant to curb your appetite but w/o other things you body needs, what good will come?
here, check out this article, I think it'll be pretty helpful for you
www.livestrong.com/.../
OK I read it, and I saw something about eating meals too frequently can cause a decrease of leptin.
If that's the case, why do people say eat smaller, frequent meals?
My specialist one told me to eat 8 to 10 small meals. Who does that anyways?
Yeah I agree with you :)
Diet and Exercise. Cardio is amazing for losing weight. Running, Jogging. Squats and lunges. Just takes time and dedication.
Yeah
Partly genetics. Stop eating so much. Exercise more.
I never said I ate much...
I eat very little actually. No need to be an ass about it.
Then exercise more. If what you put in is less than what you burn - you will lose weight simple. If you're not losing weight then what you're putting in is too much vs what you burn.
I hear this same old stuff all the time. I work out for 60 minutes. Am I supposed to work out for more than that?
You need to calorie count. Then you'll see that you probably consume more food than you think. Also your exercise needs to be a combination or weights and cardio, cardio alone is too slow at burning fat.
Here's what I eat:
Breakfast: A fiber one bar
Lunch: Iceberg salad with cheese, cucumber, and small amounts of ranch
Dinner: Same as lunch
I also drink water throughout the day.
Well you need to eat better food. Because if you eat exactly what you're telling me in reasonable portion then you're probably consuming ~500-600 calories a day. That is no where near enough for your body to function properly which means 1. It will slow down your metabolism; 2. You will be snacking, binging on food at times.
So do something like this:
Breakfast: Wholemeal toast + egg whites + black coffee
Lunch: Chicken breast, vegetables, sweet potato (or brown rice)
Dinner: Steak/Chicken/Fish (whatever) vegetables (steamed), sweet potato/brown rice/brown pasta
Something like that. Then I recommend you add in 1 or 2 small healthy snacks throughout the day - have a bananna, maybe some nuts (almonds - good fats) or something. Avoid sugary drinks, avoid eating too much fruit, avoid museli bars etc.
So you're eating MORE, but eating BETTER. This means you won't ever feel hungry during the day, so you won't feel the temptation to snack or binge on bad food.
On top of that start doing good exercise. 60mins/day is enough. But divide it into 30mins cardio. Then 30mins weights - do moderate weight, trust me you won't get 'muscley'. You don't have the hormones for it. But everyone needs some muscle. The more muscle you have, the easier it is to burn fat. The more muscle you have, the more energy it takes for you to perform movements throughout the day, therefore the more calories you will burn during the day.
Yeah, it's actually that you were eating TOO less. lol
I guess cutting calories wouldn't be the way to go...
No but you still need to count your calories. try to keep it around 1500 if you can. Btw, is your sister a model?
No, but she would be perfect lol :)
Silly question. Burn more calories than you consume. So cutting back portion size + exercise will work if you stick to it. Good luck!
I don't see how my question is silly... Clearly it's not working for me, or I wouldn't be on her asking for advice...
I eat less than 1000 calories a day. Am I supposed to eat less?
Aha. In fairness you didn't make any reference to your calorie intake so now that's clear, then activity and exercise is still definitely your friend. In fact even increasing calorie intake with the right foods can increase your energy levels for exercise, but have no adverse affect on your weight.
Make sure you're drinking the lowest fat milk possible otherwise the body will just store the natural fat in milk rather than burning as you'll be asleep.
I didn't mean to be rude, I love a girl in shape and wishing you the best of luck!
Cardio... A lot of cardio like running. Also dieting
If you don't want to do it the healthy hard way which is by exercising and dieting you could always take laxatives or stick your finger down your throat and throw up it actually works.
just eat less, it'll be difficult but you will see results in no time
Yeah
"Super HD " pills. Supress hunger and weight loss, while giving u a rush to workout lol worked for me QUICK
There are no way just eat less sorry but it is the thruth also i know ur feeling

Ahaha so why we were anonymous

OK :)
Commit to doing yoga.
Yoga sucks...
Because I can't do any of the moves... So inflexible.
I see. What if I told you try yoga six months. Don't worry about how others look when they do the poses. Yoga helped me lose weight faster than weights or cardio. It is really active meditation with lots of detox as you twist and stuff. Focus on committing yourself on what you can do and after two months you will see a difference regardless of how flexible or how you get the poses right. Everyone starts somewhere. Try other people's suggestions first about eating healthy and gym and if for any reason, you want to monitor your progress, try yoga. It worked for me.
Yoga did nothing for me. Didn't lose a single pound, and I could barely do any of the moves.
Never doing it again.
It's just not for me.
by going to the gym for a lifetime
just eat less LOL
It's so difficult to find the balance.
Not too much but not too little.
Run. A lot.
I have to get used to running first. Just can jump up and start running.
You can start with this:
