Diet: what a person eats on more than a daily basis. So basically, you might measure macros or calories on a daily basis, but metabolism changes or adapts over a longer period of time than just a day or so. But the word diet itself just refers to what a person or animal eats on a regular basis.
This word is actually a pet peeve of mine living here in the US, because people automatically assume it to mean "I'm eating a certain way to LOSE weight"... because too many people here are fat shits and have hijacked the word. When I say the word diet (at 5'10" 145 pounds), people look at me and say the stupid sentence of "why do YOU need to lose weight?"... I don't, you dummy. Diet is what you eat, not something that people hate to do in order to lose weight lol

I gotta keep my figure girl.
I do not believe in "dieting". If a change needs to be made in the way you eat to reach a certain thing then it should be a lifestyle change, not a temporary restriction.
Very first thought: Restriction on food.
Second thought: No. No no. Not for me. Nope.

Diet=What is on your list of consumption.
You could be on a "diet" of cake and ice cream.
You could be on a liquid diet.
It does not necessarily mean less food or consumption to lose weight.Diet:
In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism.[1] Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Although humans are omnivores, each culture and each person holds some food preferences or some food taboos. This may be due to personal tastes or ethical reasons. Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy.
Proper nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals, and food energy in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity. It can define cultures and play a role in religion.I always viewed it as what you are eating in order to accomplish a goal in fitness. So I weight lift and I'm trying to put on size, so I'm eating a ton of food to do this. I'd still consider this dieting as well as if you eat healthy to lose weight.
I usually just think of the textbook definition; a person's diet, simply put, is the foods that they eat.
There's also the verb definition, which usually includes a lot of unhealthy short-term habits in the hopes of losing weight. In this instance, usually the results (assuming they are even achieved in the first place) are also short-term.huh diet what's that? media.giphy.com/media/J7ibPdZVYLiwg/giphy.gif
Whatever you eat is your diet. Everyone has 'a diet'.
So to me it's not a dirty word.
Now when it comes to weight-loss diets, a lot of people, and especially a lot of women, try to lose weight in the most... stupid... ways imaginable.Diet means to change the way you eat to a system that's should be better for you health wise, but ultimately the person on the diet will quit.
I prefer the world lifestyle change when it comes to eating healthy:)Diet -means cutting back and / or eliminating things that are no
good for my health or eating the right foods but i do agree
everyone has a diet. It's misused. Everyone has a diet, all a diet is, is the food you eat. And any drink or food with the word 'diet' in it is bad for you.
Temporary benefits and the precursor to: knowing that a lifestyle change is what's really needed.
it reminds me of yoghurt for some reason
It's what you eat. "Going on a diet" is a stupid phrase!
Skipping meals or not eating much
It only works when accompanied by exercise.
