Tut, Tut, Child... But Really, Why?

We're so obsessed over how we look- it's a bit strange, honestly. We should all just slow down and enjoy life for a moment.
At least, that's what I tell people who are struggling with self-esteem issues.
I look in the mirror, and that gets swept under the rug.
I don't think I'm horrifying. I have a pretty average face and WILD curly brown hair, and I do like my eyes. But I'm short (5'1'') and I feel overweight. I believe I'm around 125-130, and I'm 13. I eat pretty well, and try to exercise everyday. Is this normal? Should I try to lose weight, or maintain my current weight?
(Also: This is every heavier person's excuse, I know, but my birth parents are both big, and I believe part of my problem is due to genetics. My adoptive parents are slim and fit.)
