What are some good ways to lose weight?

I'm 22 years old
5'6 and weigh about 165 pounds (sometimes more sometimes less)
I've been going to the gym more than usually and the only thing I drink is water. I stayed away from fast food. I'm not fat but I did gain a few extra pounds in the wrong places. I just need to lose weight in my face and get a flat tummy. The problem is I love cooking and eating. Also, I did noticed my urges of eating when I'm not even hungry has declined. I tried the whole veggie thing, it was depressing.
I usually go to the gym 3-4 days a week. While at the gym, I do about 30mins on the treadmill then about 30-40 mins doing abs, arms, and back exercises. Are there any meals you suggest or smoothies? Feel free to suggest some workouts.
