I can eat a bowl of lucky charms and be full for the rest of the day. She told me to eat more.
Should I keep eating less?
I can eat a bowl of lucky charms and be full for the rest of the day. She told me to eat more.
First of all, I agree regarding "starvation mode". It's mainly bunk. People with anorexia prove every day that if you just want to lose weight, starving yourself works, period. If the body's starvation responses worked the way many people seem to think they do, no one would ever die of starvation. It's ludicrous.
Second, I agree with your dietician - a housecat could probably lose weight eating a single bowl of Lucky Charms per day. If you're indeed just a little overweight, that's not enough nutrition, either in terms of calories/macronutrients, or micronutrients like vitamins and minerals.
If that's all you're eating (essentially ~250 calories per day), and you're not losing weight, it's because of water retention issues. I also have a hard time believing you have any energy at all.
You didn't list your height or weight (or more importantly, body fat levels), which could be helpful in ball-parking appropriate calorie intake levels. But the bottom line is, weight loss is a process. People who try to do it all at once are asking for a number of problems.
Ya u should eat ur usual day meals cuz if u don't ur body will start reverse the process that u r doing & that means u'll not gaining or losing weight... If u want to lose weight my advice as my experience u have to drink 2 gallon of water in a day & eat fruits like apples cuz it burns fat in ur body & u should do more cardio
I can't believe no one is saying this... She is trying to boost your metabolism. You eat shit food and very little of said shit food. That's exactly why you are over weight. I see nothing but excuses, but nothing about someones honest attempts to lose weight. You don't even know how to take care of the only body you have. You make excuses for not following her diet advice, but then it turns out she only told you to do 2 sets of exercises and you refuses to do more. It's disgusting, do what you are going to do, because obviously you have 2 assholes.
What am I supposed to do if my appetite is decreasing? Everyone keeps telling me to follow her advice, yet it's difficult to do when your appetite is basically nothing sometimes. Forcing myself to eat won't fix the problem.
I feel like nobody understands me since I have to explain this too many times... I'm not purposely trying to starve.
And who said anything about me refusing to do more exercise? She told me to do planks and pushups, and I started doing then yesterday. So is that not following her advice?
Well, if you don't believe in things, how are you ever going to change? Everyone's bodies are different, keep that in mind. So you're definitely right. There are people who eat one meal a day and lose weight because they're starving themselves and dying, technically. The best way is the eat enough, be healthy, and exercise. Starving yourself will make you lose muscle, not fat.
But I'm not doing this on purpose. I already explained that to her.
My appetite is very small, and when I told her that, she told me to eat more anyway.
I walk a lot, and started doing planking and pushups yesterday.
Planks, pushups, and walking isn't gonna do it for you, probably. I go to the gym, I swim laps, squat weights, and use the machines. Outside of the gym, I take dance classes. This is what works for me, and you need to find what workout works best with your body. Although you have a small appetite, your body does need the right amount of fuel to burn off the bad fats. Your small appetite could be from force of habit as well.
Well why did she say that then? I don't have a gym membership, or I would have been there.
You don't need a gym to work out. Sure, you don't have machines and all, but if you really did want to lost weight or tone your body, it comes with hard work, and you'll have to do it to make it.
Well until I find out what other exercises to do, I'm just going to keep working on the planks and pushups. It's really discouraging how someone tells you to do a certain exercise, then you figure out it's not going to help.
I'm sorry I'm discouraging you, but frankly, it is my opinion and doing planks and pushups will not help you lose weight.
Well if they don't, then I have no clue what does. Yes, jogging is effective, but where I live, the weather is about to get bad, so I won't be able to. And I'm not used to jogging anyway.
You SHOULD be doing things you're not used to, if you're going to be working for that body you want. I don't believe in weight loss though, I never care about my weight, I look in the mirror and if I like how I look, then that is absolutely perfect. I personally don't care how much I weigh.
So in other words, go outside and start jogging, even though I'll be out of breath? Kind of embarrassing.
I'm not uses to planking and pushups yet, but I might as well get rid of the idea that they won't help. I'm glad I found out the day after I started, rather than weeks later.
I'm overweight, but I stopped caring a little bit too. Nowadays, everything is unhealthy and useless.
Well with that mindset, I can't really help you there. If you're happy with your body, then that's great, if you're not, then you have to work for it. If you don't want to work for it, then that sucks.
And no, I am not telling you to go jog outside until you pass out and die, I'm saying that you should do things that are uncomfortable. You think I felt comfortable sticking my butt out to everyone the first time I squatted weights at the gym? You can't just stick in your comfort zone, but goodness, use common sense.

Those people who lose weight from eating 1 meal a day end up gaining the weight back guaranteed!
If you want a short term weight loss than don't listen to your doctor
If you want a permanent weight loss then listen to your doctor
She's trying to reset your metabolism that's prob her goal!
But I can't eat more because my appetite is very small. I'm honestly not doing this on purpose.
It's funny cuz I went through true same thing in May and I fought it in the beginning and I literally had to make a conscious effort to eat more but it's working for me because my body is 'healing' and conforming to my healthy eating plan so I'm losing weight that will stay off forever + I'm never hungry I'm content
well have you counted calories? How many calories do you eat in a day? More and little aren't enough to give an answer here
Around 1,000. Sometimes less.
I don't think you should eat less, but do you work out? Assuming you have more sedentary lifestyle you
won't need much more than 1400 cal to maintain your weight, depending on height and weight. A lot of people don't count correctly, I'm gonna assume that's the case here too. So you might still be overeating even though you think you're not.
Secondly, if you're undernourished your body will keep storing fat no matter what your calorie intake is, because it's not getting enough nutrients. If you eat a bowl of lucky charms at around 400cal you have bigger problems than your weight
I do tons of walking, and I started doing planks and pushups yesterday.
I can't go to the gym because I don't have a membership.
And how's eating a bowl of cereal overeating?
I didn't say it was, I said I don't quite believe you only eat a bowl of cereal a day. If you were you wouldn't be overweight because starvation mode only goes so far, if you eat around 400cals of lucky charms everyday for months, you'll be dying.
And I said, you're undernourished. Eating 400cal or junk food is different from eating 400cals of vegetables. The latter will keep you satisfied even though it has a low calorie count because it gives your body everything you need.
Also how do you measure your bowl?
And that's not working out. You don't need a gym membership there is plenty of stuff you can do at home. And I mean if you walk to work or school, that's great, but that's not working out
It's funny because my dietitian told me pushups and planking is exercise. Seriously, what other exercises do I need to do? It's kind of hard without having the equipment that's needed.
What can I do at home, since planking and pushups aren't exercises?
There loads of information out there. If you have no idea at all. Pay for a program such as p90x or Insanity. You might even find some of those videos on YouTube.
But there are literally loads of channels that will give you full, realtime workouts. Like blogilates, befit, tone it up, livestrong woman, bodyrock tv, superherofitnesstv , ZuzkaLight, amandarusssel, GymRa, XHIT daily just to name a few. You don't need any equipment for most of them and most of them give you 10 to 20 min workouts so just be sure to add them up to 60 to 90 min everyday
A lot of the tracy anderson dvds are also on YouTube and oldies such as cindy crawfords workouts. And there are probably about 1000 yoga channels out there. I like ali kammenova. But seriously there is loads of information out there, you just have to look
Push ups and planks can be part of a workout, but they're certainly not a workout themselves. This IS a workout

basically what's your height/weight? you might consinder yourself overweight, whilst you're not
I'm 5'6" and I weigh 170.
Yeah, true. But I still need to drop the extra weight.
If eating less isn't helping you reduce weight, it means you should work out a bit.
I do a lot of walking. And I just started doing planks and pushups yesterday.
Hmmm... then I suppose you need to eat different kids of food. Probably stuff low in calories.
I myself was quite overweight last year, but managed to shed the extra pounds by following a proper diet and no workout at all.
QA, that's not what he means by working out. Although walking a lot is great, going to a gym or really doing workout videos is what burns those calories for REAL. Not a little jog. Also, you're not eating enough to burn fat.
If I could go to the gym, I would. I have no gym membership.
Yeah, things like that can get pricey. Maybe you can take up an active hobby though. Rock climbing is a great burner.
Maybe eat more, but better choices. Like a piece of fruit instead of lucky charms.
I just ate some watermelon.
Spread your meals out throughout the day. You really should be eating no less than 1200 calories a day. Less than that and your internal organs won't have enough energy to work optimally.
