I voted other. It could be one. Could be both. Could something totally unrelated. I was bullied a lot growing up but I still didn't over eat. It's not always about overeating. More about what you eat. I've been through phases where I would eat and throw up, or eat once a day or not at all. I'm not an emotional eater, more like the opposite. I don't eat when I'm sad or depressed. You can't really look at a person and pinpoint why they're obese bc you don't know their story. I work out 5 days a week and drink green smoothies twice a day. Looking at me can you tell? Probably not. I probably just look obese to you. But I take meds that all have one common factor: weight gain. On top of the fact that I was already overweight to begin with so no one really knows that I eat healthier and am more active than most of my thinner friends.

I said other because there could be a lot of different reasons for why someone is obese. For some people it could be a lack of discipline. Others it could be because of an addiction. I know someone who has binge eating disorder. She went through a really harsh childhood and I guess that's the reason behind her disorder. There are others who are obese because of medical reasons. There could be a number of reasons for why someone has weight problems though. I know there is a good majority who are just lazy, but it's not fair to put everyone in the category. We don't know their story.
Food can be tempting, and a lot of effort and science goes into making junk food tempting (with no concern for what it does to your health). I don't think you could call any food addictive, in the sense that nicotine, drugs or alcohol are addictive.
Obesity does mainly come from excessive eating, and especially eating processed food and junk food. I'd call that more of a behavioural disorder than an addiction. We all experience a moment of hunger, about every 90 minutes. If you don't really need to eat more, it goes away a few minutes later and you don't feel hungry.
If people had the discipline to wait a few minutes after that momentary hunger, they're far less likely to become obese.
I think it's a mixture of many things and it becomes a vicious spiral that leads to a semi-depression that leads them further down the road of despair and turning around feels hopeless, leading them even further down the road.
It takes discipline and will power to turn all that around and not everyone has that.
And then we have the exceptions of people who have medical issues, etc. But with discipline, knowledge and a healthy diet that can usually also be avoided for that category, bot not always.

I think it can be both. I do believe some people have legitimate eating disorders and are obsessed with food, while some I dot think try hat enough. But Ido think our bodies do get addicted to certain foods (things like sugar and sodium are really easy for our bodies to get addicted to), and I think that's common. Also if your body is use to 20lbs of food I understand how it could be hard for your body to adjust to 9lbs of food. But I do think most of it is a lack of discipline plus mental addiction to some things (like sodium, sugar, caffeine, etc)
Kind of... But you see you can also blame the food companies. So many sugars are put on processed food, its ridiculous. So many times have put on the effort to at least reduce the amount of sugar food into food but the industry doesn't want to.. Even at least put a warning on just how much refined sugar is in their food but nooo they don't want to.
Yes, partly to blame is the sedimentary lifestyle (including lack of discipline).I feel that the lack of discipline comes from the addiction itself.
People don't eat and eat themselves into bigger sizes and double plane seats because they want to or they're too lazy to exercise, there's a psychological reason people overeat and without tackling THAT, people will either continue being overweight or they'll constantly struggle and yo-yo.someone unable to realize you're eating more than you need, or that they know and ignore. So A or B.
Either way, there's no excuse for it. Yeah, some have an easier time than others, but everyone can remain skinny. it's all about ajdusting your eating habits to your metabolism and food needs. Some people have metabolic conditions that make them prone to gaining weight.
Some people overeat when they're sad and are addicted to food. It's been proven that junk food is addictive.
It's a complicated problem and could even be all three of the above. Making obese people out to be lazy doesn't make sense to me. Skinny people can be lazy tooOther its a made up word to stigmatize a group of people specifically.
If we are talking overweight, lack of discipline.
If we are talking obesity, mental disorder and there is some sort of problem beyond the eating habits itself. It can be a variety of things like someone having no friends and feeling emotionally sick which causes them to eat a ton. But that is just one example.Usually it's the parents faults for creating the eating habits.
But when you get older
You have to discipline yourselfBoth. And eating disorders. There are different types of them.
And also traumas and emotions. When I was bullied in school I ate good food.Lack of knowledge, frequently. But also: humans can be pretty bad a thinking long term. People don't gain substantial weight overnight.
What is the difference between the two? If something is uncontrollable then you lack the discipline to stop it & if you lack discipline then it is uncontrollable. No?
Not all cases have the same cause.
and most cases include more than one factor. Is there a difference? To me, if you have an uncontrollable addiction it's because you lack discipline. So I'd say it's both.
Both, I know when its time to step away from the food. No reason someone else can't do the same.
a lot more than those answers.
Fat = lifestyle choice.
