my butt hurts from situps?

I'm sure every last one of you has dealt with pain on your tailbone from sit ups. Well, you know, what with the whole "new year new me" crap, people are going to start working out. Myself included. So far so well; doing fifty push ups and sit ups every morning and night. I'm seeing results. But holy crap does my ass hurt! Is there any good way to prevent sit ups from completely destroying your tailbone? Or do you just get used to it?
