Then the soreness wears off in a week after taking a break from the gym, but when I go back I become extremely sore again...
My friend said it's normal because I've just started working out but is he right?
What would you recommend?
Normal for newbies. Awoid resting passively. Instead use light cardio or walks to speed up recovery. Use glutamine to speed it up. Use Hiit and cross training to increase your regenerative capability. You will get better. I am now at a point when i can train 6 times a week. goodluck
its normal since you just started. you'll get used to the soreness, it won't last forever. it will hurt less and less. don't worry about it.

Yes, if you're new to weight training, it's normal to be extremely sore after the 2nd day. It's normal for an experienced lifter to be extremely sore after the 2nd day. However, if it's taking you an entire week to recuperate, you might be over-training, which is another normal thing beginners do. Maybe you should cut down the number of sets in your workout, and gradually build the workload per week...
Its most likely DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) - It completely normal and scientists believe that its due to the micro tears that are created during an intense workout. Those microtears heal and form bigger muscles. Press against the muscle that is sore and you maybe able to feel the tears.
Its sometimes a way for people to know that they have had a good workout. Learn to embrace it cause it hurts soo good.
I don't usually feel like I've had a great workout unless I feel sore later :) And as the saying goes, you know you've had a great leg-day workout when you can't walk out of the gym...
That said, realistically, if you're so sore you can't get out of bed, it might be worthwhile to dial up the intensity a little more slowly.
If you don't feel sore then your not doing it properly.
Exercise is actually breaking down your muscles and that's why it's sore.
But your body heals and becomes stronger each time.
Completely normal!!
