Why are women so pissed off when other women call themselves 'curvy' when they're clinically obese?

Not trying to start a flame war here, I just don't understand. Why are you so riled up that you need to inform people what curvy 'really' means? You think they hurt the 'real' curvy people's feelings out there? Really?

There are diagnostic ways to assess if someone's body fat is too high. Curvy is a shape not a health report. You can be curvy and underweight or curvy and overweight.

Most things people say are done in an ignorant way. But I suspect that's not why anyone who gets angry about the sensitive behind curvy, gets mad.

As for snyine not eating 2000 calories starving themselves-nope. People have different metabolisms. akso you have to taje height and bone density and activity level into account. Few women unless active or very tell , can eat that much and maintain a healthy weight. At least statistically.

. Again just like with fat there are diagnostic tests that can be done to assess starvation. And a person running over an hour a day is not starving. They wouldn't be able to run if there body was actually in a state of starvation. Id say a oersin eating heakthy food at 1200 a day and exercising vs someine eating 2000 a day and getting out of breath going up a flight of stairs. There's no comparison.

I don't know. I've had overweight women get mad when others referred to me as curvy. I'm fairly thin. But I have a small waist, and a big butt, big thighs. Pear shape. And my friends would call me "Ms. Curvy or Curvaceous". And some larger girls would say under their breath or out loud "She's too fucking skinny to be curvy. People don't know what curvy is".

Excising too much and eating too little for that amount of exercise is bad. No one should be eating 1200 calories a day, the average women should eat around 2000 calories but if she is vigorously exercising she will probably need a lot more than that. Although you are right people should look after themselves, but in a healthy way, don't eat too much, don't eat too little, don't exercise too much and don't exercise too little.

For the record yes I used to be anorexic. I'm 5'11 and used to be 110 lbs you're correct. My idea of healthy WAS fucked up... past tense.

I also struggled with overeating all through highschool and was overweight till age 16 and hated my body. Now I've found a happy medium and I've worked HARD to find it. Why should I be put down for that?

Also I don't eat 1200 calories a day. It depends on the day but I try to never go under 1700 or over 2000. and yes I run at least a few times a week, daily on a good week. I'm a normal weight.

I think we're all getting caught up in the semantics of this conversation and forgetting the real enemy here and that's society's expectations.

Every time this conversation comes up we both kneejerk run to our opposing ends and begin to criticize each other and police one another's language and bodies and diets when we have no right.

We all deserve to feel confident about our bodies and empowered. If we're truly happy with our bodies then THATS what's beautiful. Curvy, thick, skinny, thin whatever adjective you feel comfortable with and empowered by you should be allowed to embrace. Curvy means just that.. curves. In the US obesity's rampant so when there's enough fat girls doing this it can be annoying to see so many girls in denial of the fact that they're weight is holding them back from getting dates. So these girls would rather cover themselves up in whatever clothes and makeup they can to hide it and try to claim curvy.

That's because their carb ratio is too high (and fat intake too low), because most diets and nutritionists recommend an unhealthily high percentage of carbs.

Liposuction does work. The fat cells are gone. But if you still keep eating, your other fat cells start growing before it needs to form new ones all over your body.

BMI doesn't determine whether someone's fit or not, because it doesn't measure how much weight comes from fat and how much from muscles, bones etc. Bodybuilders are overweight if you only go by their BMI which is laughable because they have almost no fat on their bodies. Someone with a healthy BMI of 21, but not working out for one second has more fat than those 'overweight' bodybuilders.

liposuction doesn't work, its a surgery that removes fat cells in your body, not fat, fat cells are cells which are part of your body and for most people are empty sacs, fat is stored within these cells are the same ones removed, your body needs fat cells to operate so immediately after surgery it will start to regenerate all the lost cells, and during this healing period the patient is very susceptible to gaining lots of weight very fast even while dieting, its a system that doesn't work and i've seen plenty of people who had to redo the surgery several times to make it permanent (and by permanent that's the point when your fat cells no longer regenerate which is very bad)

as for BMI, actually it does whether you believe it or not, you're thinking fit in the BMI scale is bony thin with no fat, but thats actually very unhealthy, the recommended value is 12 - 18% fat value of your own body weight, 25% is chubby, 30% is fat, 40% is obese and 50% above is ridiculous (imagine fat bastard)

a healthy individual requires fat to survive, the proper value is 12% at absolute minimum and upto 18%-20% max depending on their metabolism, 25% is not unhealthy but people in this weight should be concerned, 30% is obese for most people, 40% is very obese and most are required to exercise to prevent complications, 50% is dangerously obese, most in this bracket dont live very long, the table doesn't go any higher than 50% because this is already considered twice your proper bodyweight, dont try to argue with the science of physical health.

Because for a long time, because of fat girls, everybody assumed you were a fatty if you described your body as curvy.
I don't get what fat girls don't just say fat or chubby or whatever instead of pretending they're curvy or thick... that being said, i have seen fat girls with curves... It's just, if you are just a fat round ball, you aren't curvy, if you're an hourglass shape with ass and tits, you're curvy.

They just ruined the word man...

I think it is disgusting how people care what label women put on themselves. If she thinks she is curvy it is non of your businesses unless you have some mental illness and hate for anything different then yourself. I have been called fat pig even by strangers and I am 13 pounds or 0.9 stones overweight from today's beauty standard. And I think it is time to change this shallow point of view - why should we be only accepted to look like models or have standard what Beautiful woman is? In Renaissance Fat girls were considered healthy and beautiful, that point of view is fashion nothing else. Why should you who post this picture think anything bad about another persons body, why should woman feel comfortable in their body's , why the poster has a need to hate someone just because her/his body. You have MENTAL ISSUES folks!

Both extremes of way underweight and morbidly obese are unhealthy. Truly obese people are not doing themselves any favors by pretending that it's not a problem, but just an expression of who they are. Obesity is an epidemic in the US. It's not cool... It's not a fashion statement.

I agree. I just don't get why it's not okay to call out one type of unhealthy as unhealthy while it's okay to rip the other type of unhealthy apart for doing basically the same thing.

I don't get why people are so pathetic, that they need other people to feel bad about themselves, before they are happy themselves. It's disgusting how if someone calls themselves curvy, others have to get them to think about themselves as fat cows, just because that's the truth. Just mind your own damn business, and let them be happy, referring to themselves however they want to.

Because apparently when "fat" people call themselves curvy, it ruins the "real" meaning of the word. I'm not gonna get into it, as I've commented on endless posts like this. Just know that you're fighting a losing battle with this topic.

People feel how they feel. Really can't do too much to change it. Everyone has their own ideas of what curvy is.
