Yes, your tolerance goes up. When I first got a kickboxing stand in high school my shins would bruise up and it would be a pain to punch the stand even with gloves, now my shins don't bruise up and I can kick it a lot harder than before.

I think it is different from other physical pain caused by hurt during sports, so it may does not work.
You may attend some yoga classes, which will help you on pain and some other issues.
But these are only my guesses
If it is same sort of pain yes, it kinda numbs you after several time but if it is different type of pain you would still find them painful
