you dont need a personal trainer, just go to the gym, watch youtube etc and do research, you should know what ur doing in 6 months and learn from mistakes, personal trainers won't know what works best for you

having a PT will help you stay committed and progress faster than you can do on your own, its good if you're a beginner. A dietitian is more reliable though if you want strictly diet.
If you feel like you could use some pointers, then you should start off with a personal trainer and then take it from there once you really know what you're doing.
Pros: someone can give you advice
Cons: its expensive, google can help a lot too and is free.
