Yeah mouth-breathers (including people who have colds) tend to get dark circles because.. oh shoot I'm not completely sure I forgot. It has something to do with the oxygen and the blood (?) that has no where else to go but under your eyes.
Medical pathology aside, unless you can start to breath through your nose again, you'll have dark circles for quite a while.
You can try to improve your overall health by drinking more water (increasing blood volume) and getting more sleep (for better skin)

1. Apply cold water or preferably rose water on to a tissue and keep it on ur eyes for 15 minutes before bed... it not only relaxes but also brightens up the area around the eyes.
2. Keep two tea bags inside the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes so that it becomes cold then remove it put in onto ur eyes for 15 minutes. The caffeine in the tea pulls all dirt off and also removes dark circles.
3. Of course, u have gotta sleep more.
:) hope this helps!
I guess, some extra rest. Anti allergy medication. If you want to go to extreme you could look up those easy self to do spa treatments.
Isn't it sleep and sticking cucumbers on your eyes and stuff that helps that?

Drinking more water might help. Women are supposed to drink around 2.2 liters a day and men are supposed to drink around 3.
