Totally hear you. It sux but but what is in season and on sale. Apples are wide ranging in prices so shop the cheapest. Not lemon is expensive and like is cheap but lime. I make a good living but after examining where my money was going changes had to be made as I was spending over 1k a month at the market and still eating out a lot.
Bananas are cheap, sometimes grapes are and I go to Hispanic markets. Go for color variety but the best bang for your buck. Something might be expensive no because it isn't in season but will be cheaper in 6 months. Get frozen when you can and steam it. Like Brussels sprouts this is a good option and much cheaper though I still buy fresh Kale and Spinach. i hope this helps. Best.
If you're talking about organic, it's because not a whole lot of farmers use organic feed these days.
That said, you can still eat healthy for cheap. Look out for foods that are in season, on sale, and can buy in bulk. Dried beans, bananas, brown rice, eggs, and frozen fruits and veggies are normally inexpensive. Even if you don't buy organic, it's still way better than buying processed foods.

Briefly, the scummy companies like fast food chains have made adulterated food the norm. They have earned obscene profits and used their money to lobby congress to legislate in their favor. Meanwhile, organic farmers have no subsidies.
Ya gotta be smart bout what you buy. Go 4 lean meats n complex starches like pastas n Brown rice. Then buy da veggies on sale.

Don't buy those "superfoods". Just buy potatoes, rice, beans, fruit and veggies. Apples, pears, oranges, and bananas are not expensive.
Buy produce that's in season and make meals out of that
Because the cheap processed food sells... because it's cheap.
beans , eggs , oats are healthy but not expensive, only stuff expensive are protein shakes
