Why can't American companies make food healthier here?
https://foodbabe.com/tag/ingredients-banned-in-other-countries/
A lot of it has to do with supply and demand. American consumers for the longest time have demanded quick, ready-to-eat type foods. Companies responded by putting a lot of weird preservative crap in the food.
Take honey for example. People wanted honey that is pourable, not harden up, even though honey is naturally like that. So what did companies do - they put weird shit in the honey so it can be forever pourable. Now there's a lot of fake honey on sale.
Even fresh produce is made watered down, losing a lot of its natural nutrient dense starch content so it can cook faster.
Because of good ole American exceptionalism. When the government/FDA try to make restrictions to save us people go "there's the government in my business I can eat as much message as I want. Freedom". And so they back down.
Fun fact in Europe there are about 1,400 banned chemicals in cosmetics that are deemed unsafe. In America there are 7.
They can make food more healthy. The problem is most major food companies are in bed with the FDA and hardly anyone is pushing them to make heather food. It's really sad and scary when you think about it. We have ingredients in our food and we are using herbicides/pesticides that are banned in pretty much every country. They are banned because they have been linked to some of the most common health issues in the US. Health issues such several forms of cancer and autism. Heath issues that are also way more common in the US than they are in any other country.
Yes, the good food in America is kind of expensive. more expensive than in Europe .
Especially drinking water. The water you can buy in the US contains far less minerals and has not carbonated - The water I drink contains 604 milligrams of Calcium and about 300 of Magnesium, which is very important for your bones. One of the reasons Americans are so short. And since non carbonated water is not that refreshing, people drink carbonated soft drinks with loads of sugar.
Fiji water is pretty tasty though ^^

Companies want large profit margins... so the big food companies sell cheap garbage food and increase their profit margins.
Unfortunately to eat inexpensively when you go out it is usually "junk food".
It is sad that the companies sell tasty garbage and we tend to gobble it up.
I don't think that it is companies fault... its the general public... nobody force feeds people crap! If the general public said, no more eating burgers and fries... then the companies would go under and new healthier alternatives would be born.
So people can get sick, put more money in the pockets of the pharmaceutical and health industry, and be dependent on the government.
Unfortunately cancer is big business and they don't want to lose their cash cow

I don't buy fast food from companies and or chains I get my stuff when I eat it which is rarely from private business owners who have better food and restaurant and actually cook it fresh, from scratch without additives and all that. so it doesn't affect me, but it's not totally the fast food chains fault I mean y'all do keep buying it so it's as much our fault as it is theirs.
And other countries fast food really isn't really that much better, plus you have to add in those countries own problems, civil war, massive pollution, way to large of a population etc will tie into it.
You know the trend of food delivery and food buying through the Internet. I would make my own business where I sell the most organic stuff or from other countries. Now that there is an incentive for people to have healthy food. The only problem would be is that it would be as expensive as Whole Foods. The point is that if even regulated food is gonna be unhealthy, might as well have a company make healthy organic food.
The cost of food is directly tied to how likely a people are to overthrow the government. As such the government subsidizes a lot of unhealthy foods such as corn to keep the costs as low as possible, even though they know that subsidizing these foods will encourage people to pick unhealthy foods. The food industry is also corrupt and lobbies the government to allow dishonest practices.
So do what the rest of the world does: Buy the raw ingredients and cook. It's better for you in the long run... except that your crops are treated with pesticides banned by the rest of the world... never mind.
thats why i cook everything myself nowadays lol
go to an organic supermarket, but be careful, a lot of that stuff is BS
gotta sift through a lot of the stuff to find the healthiest choices
Because it is cheap and not illegal. It is not illegal because food industry pays the government to keep things cheap.
A lot of them are full of things you can grow dependent on and get addicted to so people buy more of the food, a lot of it is about money.
Because America only cares about having stuff look nice and making a profit. If adding those ingredients icrease sales that's all that matters to them.
they dont give a shit about us more money for them is all they want.
Simple. Healthy food is not profitable. It saves a lot of money for companies to use the poorest quality ingredients in the food as well as creating a market for sick people in the medical industry.
I know what you mean. Monsanto makes me the angriest person alive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6_DbVdVo-kI agree with you. The Big Food Industry isn't serving us very well here in America.
In most cases healthy = not as good tasting and addictive.
Why would any company want to make something people aren't addicted to?
The ingredients made to make healthy food cost a lot.
cos it doesn't taste as nice so people wudnt buy as much xxx
It's because of all your freedom! Yay!
Hey just want to the money
Because we keep buying the garbage...
