I rarely bet use the treadmill, I don't think it's most effective for burning fat/calories. When you left a weight it tears muscle fibers. And then your body has to repaire them which it needs calories/energy to do. It takes 48 hours for a muscle to fully heal. So basically for 24 hours your consistently burning calories. Also maintaining muscle takes more calories so it's literally just burning calories by existing.
With running your burning calories while
you do the exercise and for 15 mins after weds. Which is okay but not great.
Also they have mass treadmills because it some of the most common warm ups. Not everyone does Chest on the same day but almost everyone will warm up with a treadmill. Also most of the people in the gym are overweight and never making progress but they're on the treadmill all day.

I don't use the treadmill mainly because I'm deathly afraid that if I miss a step, I'll trip and go flying off. lol so I'd rather stick to the elliptical when it comes to cardio in the gym.
I don't think it's useless for other people to use. Running is running, same goes for walking, whether it's on a treadmill or different terrain. My only issue with it is why someone would pay $6 to run inside when they could just run outside in the fresh air for free.

When i started off (Back when i was obese), I got hella bad shin splints because of my weight and was so unfit i couldnt run for more than 30 seconds without seeing fast coming visions of my death xD (This was last september)
But, Now i can run 1.5miles in 13 minutes (Trying to get that number down to 10 minutes so i can join the army) ;)
People just dont like running because, in my opinion, its more physical then the likes of an Xtrainer/Crosstrainer, Because on those, you can use the momentum of the machines rotation to keep going (Meaning you can take breaks and miss steps) but you can't do that on a treadmil or you will go flying xD.
Not to mention, Running buffs up your Calf and Shin muscles like fuck! xD
It's a great cardio workout. I don't like the other equipment except the stepmill. I don't feel like a got a great workout on the others I run a 5K twice a week & climb 100 floors the other day.
I have to do my cardio inside because it's 100 outside & hey I'm in the gym anyway.

treadmill equalize walkin/runnin... nevr used treadmill often, but i was walkin/runnin at least 1 hr/day when i was tryin 2 lose weight and i loste more than 100 lbs thanks 2 it... oh yeah... \O/I hate the treadmill because it's freaking boring and typically you don't burn as many calories. However I do it a few days a week. I do increasing incline and speed for 30 minutes. It's killer and I sweat like crazy.
I never go lower than 4 incline or 4 speed fyi.Every machine that does cardio will burn fat, so also the treadmill. And its best to change machines because they all work differently. But don't look blindly at the calorie value they display at the end. To burn those calories effectively from fat, you need to do low intensity cardio for at least 20 to 30 min. Otherwise you use other energy sources from you muscles.
I used to be a distance runner (can hardly count myself one now as I am only getting about 9 miles a week ) and the tread was part of my usual routine. I honestly kind of find it boring, but it's certainly useful. Just beware, the calorie counters on those usually lie.
Some people might see them as toys. I wish we still had a tread mill. They can do so much for you without having to go walking or running. It's get for people who can't do that or for when the weather is bad.
Cardio is good for stamina energy sweating and I'd say weight loss too. Lifting is good for getting stronger, beefy but for girls cardio is better overall.
yeah I use treadmill for like 10 minute intervals for like 30 minutes. I do 15% incline with a 1 minute sprint and 1 minute jogging. I burn like 250 calories in 10 minutes. max speed at 7.9(miles/hour) and lowest at 4.8
I don't use the treadmill because it's highly inefficient. Jumping rope, rowing machine, elliptical are all far better. And circuit training is even better.
I use the treadmill/arc machine for 30 min and lose approx 350-370 calories and I do about 15 min weight lifting; I lose about 2.5 lbs in a week so I don't find it useless at all
It's iseless if it's not used properly. Maybe that's what they mean. Don't get so bent out of shape :)
Treadmill is not useless, but it's not as efficient as running outside. It's always feel easier running on treadmill.
The treadmill definitely has its uses!
