Can I sue my orthodontist?

Anonymous
I'm from Australia, first off, for law purposes.

I had braces several years ago, to straighten my teeth and correct my bite. They did what they were supposed to do, but I started having serious problems with my TMJ. I was sent to a specific dentist that specialised in those issues by my orthodontist, and he built up parts of my teeth to fix it. Worked for a while, until they moved my teeth more, and then took the braces off, saying everything was fixed. Years later, my current dentist is horrified at the state of my jaw, and I'm having problems with my teeth dying, and needing root canal. My dentist suspects that this is a result of the orthodontist moving my teeth too fast.

Has anyone had problems like this? Could I demand compensation from the orthodontist, considering how much dental work I now need?
