I started my period yesterday. Last night I went to sleep about 2 hours earlier than usual. I have Chronic Insomnia to where I wake up at least three times during the night, so when 11 o'clock rolled around I wasn't too surprised to be awake. The odd thing was, I had this longing for water, so I got up, poured myself a glass, downed the water, and went back to sleep. About an hour later I woke up again, this time my mouth was dry, and my tounge felt like sand paper, so I stumbled out of bed, got the glass, filled it up again, and drank it, then went back to sleep. This happened two other times that night and I woke up in the morning with the same feeling. I've been known to be pretty lax in my water intake, but I've never been dehydrated before, and I wondered if it was somehow triggered by my period, and if it was, was it normal?
I'm more inclined to believe the dehydration was caused by the weather and your own laxness at water intake than your period. There's not really any water necessary for the shedding of a uterine lining (though being properly hydrated reduces muscle cramping, which it does always). Make sure you drink enough water today (at least 6 eight ounce glasses) and you should see an improvement.
