Hairstylists: She didn't color my roots... only the rest of my hair?
Please help!
She doesn't know what she is doing. She has not received the proper education on color. Hairstylists are supposed to constantly work on continuing education to stay current with the ever changing world of hairstyling. Depending upon where you live, there may be different licensing, but most hairstylists that specialize in color are Board Certified as a Hair Colorist, not just a Cosemotologist/Stylist. Be sure to read their license wich is generally posted at their station or near the entrance to the shop.
Go back and speak to the manager and get someone else to fix it. If they refuse, or no one nows how to do it correctly, ask for refund and go elsewhere to get it fixed. If they refuse to refund you, tell them you'll report them to their board. Follow through if they still refuse.
She is someone that has been really nice to me and I graduated high school with her. I guess I will bite the bullet and swallow the money I paid. I knew it wasn't right and now, I have to pay to get it fixed.
How would untouched roots be fixed? Would someone just have to color the roots and then tone my hair?
A good colorist can fix your hair fairly easily. It would be similar to doing a root touch up. I don't understand what she is talking about when she said she is worried about harming your hair. Unless you have some very specific issues, that's nonsense. Did she have you shampoo the day prior to your appointment with a clarifying shampoo? Did she tell you not to shampoo the day of your appointment? Has she colored your hair before? If so, she should be familiar with your specific needs. A good stylist/colorist keeps notes on their clients about what they have done in the past, what colors work best, what doesn't work well for your particular hair, etc. I can't stress enough the importance of getting a refund, or having someone else, an experienced colorist either do the corrections, or supervise your friend do the corrections.
I have a few points to make. I'm not sure where you're from, but as far as I'm aware there is no said board certification for hair coloring in the state I'm in. As far as the continued education, there is nothing wrong with that is someone wants to do that on their own. But the reason behind continued education in the state where I'm at is because of foreigners that are lazy in areas such as sanitation. It's because of them in my state that caused continued education and all that continued education is about in my state is first the state taking money and secondly sanitation that those foreigners will never pay any attention to good sanitation no matter continued education or not.
Normally you would start with roots first. Then pulled the the color through the rest of the hair before the finish. Are you trying to go back to your natural color?
No, I am a dirty blonde, naturally. We lightened it from a brownish-red four months ago. It was harsh on my hair, but she said it had recovered. The first lightening took me to a strawberry blonde. I noticed the roots, but just thought it was because I had made a drastic change. Tonight, get home after my first color in four months, and look, and the color stops a little bit from the root and it looks like someone who doesn't know how to color, colored it. Hair color isn't supposed to "blend," it is supposed to look natural A. K. A also cover the root. She said she didn't want to fry my hair.
It doesn't look horrible, but it's definitely not what I wanted. The blonde lightened and I'm now a honey blonde with red-brown highlights on top.
On the sides (the last parts she did) they are still dirty blonde and there is one bright blonde strip that is a bit from the root. It looks ridiculous in my dirty blonde, uncolored side hair.
Obviously, she doesn't know how to color hair?
It's like she does everything but the roots and sides and leaves those dirty blonde, attempting to blend them, but it just looks half-ass*d.
I'm not getting why she left out your roots. She did the rest of your hair right? If there was any real threat of damaging the hair that should have been directed at the rest, not any new growth. Also when you picked out the color, did she take it two shades below the shade you agreed on?

kinda makes sense, some chemicals can harm the skin on your head. Especially on fair skin.
But I used bleach on my eyebrows and it didn't sting. Guess that hair salon has bad products.
