People react differently to wisdom tooth extractions.
For myself, it was a long extraction and I was awake for the entire thing. A lot of crunching and scalpel cutting because the tooth was very deep and growing sideways. But the post-operative pain wasn't that bad. It was sore of course, but it was just dull pain, rather than sharp stinging pain. I got Tylenol 3s, but never felt the need to take them for the entire recovery because I didn't think the pain was that bad. However, if you don't like the sight of blood, you're in trouble. It will slowly trickle blood over the course of 2 weeks, and sometimes, gross black blood clots will form in the hole. Easily removable by rinsing though.
I've heard that some people react poorly to the anesthetic used to put you out. By poorly, I mean that they will wake up and start crying - but it's due to the drug and not from the pain.
Other than that, there's very little that can go wrong after a tooth extraction. Swelling might be the other thing. You'll look like a chipmunk, and it can bruise quite a bit.

Everyone is different and the younger you are the better you heal. I was in my late twenties, waited way too long. My wisdom were impacted and facing forward. They had to be all broken in piece and extracted like that. Because of this, there was more trauma to my jaw and gums. I was sore for a good couple weeks. Could not eat until day 5. The pain killers I was on killed the pain, but I felt like I was falling all the time and that made me sick to my stomach. Not a good time, LOL!
I had one of them extracted and my face was swallen for a whole week. I would never want to go through that again lol. Maybe it was because that particular tooth was very hard to take out and my dentist had to pull A LOT :/
Sucked. I remember drooling blood nonstop and I couldn't take the vicodin because it made me throw up. So it was miserable. My sister had an okay time though. We got it done the same day.

i just got one pulled out, just got a fever and non stop bleeding for 8 hours. mine was horizontal. After that all i had to worry about was there enough congee in my belly.
Ehh, it wasn't hard. I was 16 or so. I walked out of the operating room, had tapioca pudding, was alright. My mouth felt bloody, but the dull ache was taken care of by the painkillers. It wasn't very bad.
I had a dry docket develop from one which complicates things. Very painful.
TERRIBLE... swelling and pain for about a week; the vicodin did absolutely nothing for me.
i had no bad experience from wisdom tooth removal... everything was normal
I had all 5 of them done right away, and after it was done, I still needed more procedures done on my teeth
In my life, I've had 20 teeth pulled all together
