Patients get it for free, but you can get money for donating blood, however, the ones who need it isn't the payer, it's the state, to encourage people to do it.
In New Zealand people donate blood and patients get it for free.
I'm sure it's part of the medical bill here. Even if they're only charging you for storage and supplies.
Plasma donors are paid. Blood is such a necessary and available resource that it seems like the right thing to do.

In the UK you can get it free, but only if you lost a lot of your own. The don't pay you for donating though so it's fair enough.
