Why do we pretend that if someone has cancer it automatically makes them some kind of admirable person?

Really why do we attach such labels as heroes, fighters, warriors, brave ect? for enduring the side effects of getting treated for it? why? anyone in their situation would do the same, so what's with all of the apraisal? If you were a bad person and died of cancer, would that automatically make them a good person. Take my mother, she was such an emotional person that growing up, she drove me crazy. And her getting diagnosed with cancer didn't change my view of her and the only reason that I ever visited her in the hospital is because my dad made me and I could care less when she died. But even in death she had to haunt me because her cancer was genetic and she passed on the gene that predisposed me to developing cancer. So for that I spit on her grave. But people have to add insult to injury by saying that she must have been brave, or she was a hero for going through that.
