How many calories do you aim to lose in a gym session?

I'm going to try and lose 1000 calories a gym session, which will obviously take a couple hours or more. 3 days a week. I'm 17 and overweight so I'm aiming to lose about 28 lbs, because my mom wants me to do it because of my health. Do you think doing the above as well as a healthy diet will help me lose my target in about 4 months?
