It's better for you than traditional ab exercises. But you need to do other core stabilization exercises in addition to the plank. I use resistance bands to work my abs because you can do a lot of exercises using resistance (i. e. weight) that you can't do without them. I recommend that you do a YouTube search for the Band Man Dave Schmitz. I took a lot of the ab excerises, and oblique exercises for that matter, from him.

Doing ab exercises will not exclusively burn belly fat. You can do all the planks you want, and you might have rock hard abs, but if the fat is still there they will be covered up.
You need to lose the fat, so make dietary changes and do a lot of cardio along with ab strengthening exercises
Planks will help in terms of strengthening your core and getting your abs more toned but you should pair that with cardio and a good diet. Those two will help you shed any excess fat remaining around your belly region, while the plank will help work on giving the muscles a better look once you've shed enough fat for them to peek through.
Planks just strengthen your core, you need to be doing things like cardio in order to work all over and shred fat around that area because you can't spot reduce.

You definitely won't achieve this by doing the plank on its own. In order to burn fat effectively you'll need to do lots of high energy, cardio work along with your abdominal exercises like the plank.
One good one that combines a bit of both is 'mountain climbers' you start in the push up position and bring your knee to touch your elbow on each side, swapping sides as you get better at it.Why dont you do push ups ots just high plank down then back up pretty easy
