How should I tackle losing weight?

I'm 235 I'm around 5'9 to 5'11 I haven't been to the doctor since my physical to play football sr year in high school. It's been 3 years now. Even though I played football in high school believe it or not I didn't lift weights in high school well I didn't bench press or any like real weight lifting stuff I worked on the machines because back then I was kinda embarrassed that I played a strong man position but didn't have a lot of upper body strength just lower so now what I want to do is lose weight and drop down from 235 to 160 and build all muscle back up back that's if I take the la fitness and boxing gym route now that school is nearing the end of the semester I might do that then but either way I want to be 190-200 at least and I have no clue on how to start how to motivate myself nothing I like the boxing gym though because I one I love boxing two it's basically like getting a personal trainer and you get boxing lessons. But I don't know I really just want to cardio down like 40 pounds and work out and slim the rest but I really don't find motivation in myself to do it last year I was 250 and I got down to 220 but I stopped going once school and everything I was doing in between became more time consuming any tips and help on how to lose weight the right and healthy way and how to motivate myself to go because Ik I'm not gonna lose weight in one day like I'm just lazy when it comes to working out I can run games of basketball or play pick up football all day but can't go run at the gym when I'm doing the same amount of running
