New at working out, unsure about protein shakes, so what should I take, if anything?

I'm only a couple of weeks into working out in my life. I have always been very thin with very little muscle tone, but now I'm looking to gain some muscle and have definition.

I am a very inconsistent eater (don't always eat every meal of the day and don't always make the healthy choices when I do), so I do need the protein cause I'm definitely not getting enough.

WHat would be the best way to conveniently get enough protein and/or vitamins to build my muscles?
