My best friend did, very recently. She gave birth January 11th 2016 and her depression lasted about 6 weeks. I helped her through it and although I don't have kids I saw first-hand what she went through and how she felt. She was excited all throughout her pregnancy and when she have birth she said it felt like all the excitement is over and life became nothing but stress and chaos from being a new mom. Like there was a void, which is due to your body letting go of something you've been nurturing and carrying inside your body for 9 months. It's completely normal. What helped her was giving herself a couple hours a day for just herself, just to do things for herself like paint her nails or watch a good movie. To remind herself that she is still the same person, just a mom as well. She also watched the baby sleep, stared at him while he slept peacefully to take in and absorb the fact that he is her beautiful son and he depends on her to love him and care for him. It helped her see how lucky she is to have a healthy baby boy that will love her just as much. When the baby cries, have someone else comfort him and leave the room. When you listen to him crying while someone else comforts him it will naturally allow your maternal instincts to kick in. Slowly, but surely. Trust me it worked for her. But if it nothing else helps and the depression gets too overwhelming, definitely talk to your doctor. They may suggest antidepressants for just a short period of time. This is a very common thing, and believe me you're not alone ☺
