What are some good ways to deal with depression?

My room had been a mess for about three weeks now. I don't have the energy or desire to clean it. I have absolutely no motivation to do anything. I force myself to get out of bed but I dread every moment of it. I've talked to my doctor about it and he says I have to start exercising but the desire is so weak. I just don't give a shit anymore. Have you ever personally experienced depression and what were some coping skills that helped you get through it? Anything is appreciated, thank you.
