Did the fear of being sent to a mental hospital ever make you afraid of seeking psychiatric help?

I've met a lot of people who feel this way. Ironically not getting the help I needed got me wound up in a mental hospital.

Yes, It has at one point.
Sucks but it used to scare the shit out of me.
Now I realize that if I ever get hospitalized it will be because i need it.
But there is that nagging voice in the back of my head that says kill yourself if someone tries to send you there

Please don't think that way. @redeyemindtricks was in a situation similar to what you're in now (with a different condition though) and now she's got a wonderful life.

The thing about going through stuff like this, is that you'll be *much* more able to appreciate life's little moments of happiness once you're in a better place.
"Bad place to be, good place to be from" sort of thing.

I didn't think I'd make it to be 30 when I was 20, either (although not by my own hand, necessarily)... and, here I am.

When you get into a mood like this, try to think back on someone -- anyone -- who's brightened up yr life at some point. Could be something large or small, could be yesterday or could be 10 years ago.
Then, write them a thank-you note. Preferably a handwritten one.

You'll keep people closer to you this way -- and you'll probably start to feel more connected to the world in general, too.

It's almost impossible to have someone "committed" these days so the fear has no merit. Most people's fear is from a complete lack of education about mental illnesses

not that hard, all you need is a dr wo may have only talked to you once, to grab anther dr -who doesn't now anything about you- and have them both say ok commit him her. and this can be desirable if they are running a program for which they need more funding or case studies. people are used to support programs not the other way around. everything is about profit. and mental disturbances are exploited to the max. an eccentric but healthy person can be committed while a suffering person who really needs help can be turned away. the difference : which one has money and which one is a ward of the state.

@AriadneSky no it goes before a judge and is up to him not just Dr's. I'm a mental health patient myself and my family has tried to "commit" me. Yes I did get evaluated by two Dr's but I was also smart enough to talk to my court appointed lawyer and fought it. They weren't successful. As long as you're not a danger to yourself or others and state such there's not a whole hell of a lot anyone can do

you can be held for two weeks BEFORE IT GOES BEFORE A JUDGE. And if you dont have anyone to speak on your behalf its you again the drs and they can say whatever they want. you can be held like a prisoner just for going to see a dr. its like arresting a person as far as your rights go.

also the more powerful the hospital the harder it is to get out. even with a hearing.. its like the way history is written by those in power. people get out in jail for things they did not d people get committed again their will for things they do not suffer from. (they might have proems but what people get committed for is more about red tape and insurance money than what actually is bothering them)

definitely not, However I never been to psychiatrist, I always believe I'm strong enough to handle all these issues on my own

I wanted to see if there were really crazy people but there were only a few and most admited that they went there on purpose because they were poor and it provided food and shelter
