Why are so many people still so negligent about wearing sunscreen?

In the summer, I regularly go on camping and boating trips, etc, with friends and it seems like every time half the group comes back burnt to a crisp, some even getting burnt the first day and making it worse the rest of the trip... I don't get it!!

How do grown ass adults (we all are late 20s/early 30s) forget to put on sunscreen and reapply it through out the day? It's not that hard. What really chaps my ass is that I will even remind them to reapply and they'll shrug it off and say "nah, I'm probably good". And then, of course, they end up with a sun burn.

I am the whitest person alive and I have successfully managed to avoid sunburns for 5 years and counting. I still manage to get a bit of a tan but I never burn BECAUSE I WEAR FUCKIN SUNSCREEN RELIGIOUSLY!!

We all know that sun damage is bad for us and it is SO easy to avoid - so why are people so negligent about it?
