Why do people workout to get big?

I've been meaning to ask this (and other questions) for a while. What's the point? I get staying in shape, but there's a point where it's being excessive. I also personally feel like, beyond staying in shape, lifting and running is pretty worthless if you aren't competing in something athletic... but that's just me. When is having 28" biceps ever gonna come in handy beyond possibly intimidating some poor fuck or a bar fight that might happen like 2x in your life if you happen to be a belligerent drunk? 😂

I kinda knew this would happen... For context, I used to be fairly athletic. I was a top 100 long jumper, triple jumper and was pretty raw in high jump and high (110 hurdles). On top of that, decently fast in track terms. Not amazing, but a sub 50 400 and sub 22 200. And played football. Not amazing and fairly skinny, but I was a pretty decent receiver and safety and could lay some wood. I decided not to compete in college for a lot of reasons

To maintain or even exceed it takes a lot of work is pretty strenuous, but I wouldn't be doing anything with it. Again, I understand staying in shape, but some people are beyond that point. Some look like NFL players. I'm just trying to figure out when being that jacked is ever going to be used in a real world application?
