Do only fat girls have cellulite?

Guys always talk how cellulite is gross on a girl, because they have been so used to the media only showing girls with 0 cellulite. But I have come to find in my entourage that most girls have cellulite, even if just a bit, and most are slim. I have an average weight and I have some cellulite on my upper thighs.

I am slim / average and I have cellulite.

A bit cellulite is normal since women store their fat in their butt and legs for possible pregnancy. Generally women have more percental fatmass to begin with.

The question is how much and that depends on health and weight. Unhealthy skin, undernutrition and obesity naturally create way more cellulite.

Additionally no, it is not media making guys find it gross. In fact, most guys I know couldn't care less neither about some cellulite nor about what the media does. Believe it or not, we are smart enough to realise that those media-pictures are photoshopped. Additionally the majority of consumers of those pictures are actually women, not men.

I love how everyone blames the media. I just don't like girls with fat, I see plenty of average girls. It's a case by case.

No of course. It's apparently more common in skinny women as well. I agree with you the media only cellulite on bigger women so guys believe it's exclusive to bigger women. And even so women do. My friend who is tiny says she was shocked and felt fat when she realized she had cellulite

I've read that something like 90% of all women have at least a little bit of cellulite.

I'm skinny, 100 -103 lbs here lately and I have a little bit on my booty and sometimes my thighs when I'm in a certain position.

I think like 80-90% of women have cellulite, not 80-90% of women are fat so obviously this is something skinny women have to deal with, too.
But it's not like you can't get rid of or prevent it with exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

@Amuro Actually only 40% of (american!) women qualify as obese and hence would be what I consider fat, but yeah, cellulite is something that clearly does affect skinny people just as well as fat ones. If your lifestyle sucks you're most likely gonna get it at some point.

You seemed to have left out that the percentage that are overweight. If you are overweight you are fat and this isn't just women that are affected by this it's everyone except for the minority of people that are normal weight. Which is only 31% and it's probably lower than that. There are so many fat people in America that basically if you are normal weight you are too skinny if you are overweight but not obese it's okay (which it isn't).

@Amuro yes, but please don't generalise the whole planet based on American statistics as you're gonna end up with an extremely inaccurate picture because the US are literally the fattest nation. The country I live in has an approximate obesity rate of "only" around 13% and is predicted to go down to 8% by 2030, for instance.

i only have one visable cellulite that im aware of, and its on my left butt cheek. But average size girls and skinny girls can have cellulite, i belive the main reason i dont have any is because i workout and i eat healthy, im average size by the way

Everyone has cellulite. The question is is it noticeable. It's usually the fat ones that have so much of it the ass of their bathing suit looks like she dumped a bag of marbles in it.

I have a friend who is majorly underweight and has celulite. I've heard it can be caused by poor circulation to the legs

shit, I had cellulite when I was 17 years old, when I was 6'2" 118 lbs. I didn't have *much* of it, but... it was there.
and if I moved or bent my legs in certain directions -- or didn't drink enough water, or didn't eat many carbohydrates, or didn't do X or Y or Z other thing that lends fullness and elasticity to yr skin -- then it would start to show.

Two main reasons.

1) Women have a thinner dermis (skin layer above the subcutaneous fat) than men do.

2) The septae -- the fibrous bands that connect the dermis to the underlying muscle fascia -- are in a diagonal criss-cross pattern in men, but are parallel in women:

As a consequence, the subcutaneous fat deposits BETWEEN these septae **in women** are both (a) bigger, and (b) better able to butt up against the inner surface of the dermis and create the bumpy appearance of cellulite.
Because of the diagonal crisscross thing that men have going on, the fat is broken up into smaller deposits to start with -- and those deposits are also less likely to get displaced closer to the skin.

yeah. that second thing is also the reason why men's skin ages better than women's on average (= why men's skin "looks younger" after a certain age, unless they spend more time working outside), too.

on the other hand, for the same reason, when men have injuries/lacerations to the skin, the same thing tends to cause "contractures" (where the skin contracts around the injury like shrinkwrap).
that can happen to a certain extent in both sexes, but it's a MUCH more serious problem in men -- which is why men usually have way worse issues getting their mobility back after surgery, major injuries, etc., and why men have to do *much* more extensive rehab and flexibility exercises in order to get full range-of-motion back after those kinds of things.
Also, men suffer from other contracture-related problems (like dupuytren's) at about 10 times the rate that women do.

As far as the evolutionary adaptations of these things are concerned -- The way men's skin is

made makes it physically tougher (which would have made men more likely to survive fights, animal attacks, random shit falling on them, etc. back in prehistoric times).
The way our skin is made, on the other hand, lets us do shit like expand our stomachs (and then the area around the birth canal) a million billion times in order to have babies. If our skin had the crisscross septae that men's skin had, then our stomachs would literally split open during the second or third trimester of pregnancy.
