I wear RGP (hard lenses), for about 30 years.
GP lenses are not a pain, easier to get use to. Most of them you just wear & throw away.
I've lost a lens by being hit in the head, it just popped out or it gets off center in my eye. I just look for it in my eye, recenter it or take it out & put it back in. Sometimes an eyelash or spec of dust gets in your eye. I just pop my contact out, wet it in my mouth & put it back in. RGP I take them out nightly, GP I think can be worn for up to 7 days (?)
Clean hands, well I don't clean them outside. if I need to take a contact out & reseat it. I Just wet my fingertips, pop it out, put it in my mouth to wet it & put it back in.
You could carry a small bottle of purel or some packs of hand wipes.
Again I wear RGP & their comfortable. When I get sleepy in the evening they do start to bother me.
I wear RGP not only because they were the most popular back in the day I also have 20/10 vision with them. GP contacts still give you better vision then glasses.
How many people in sports do you see wearing glasses? Not many. I'm guessing because of better vision, glasses get dirty, fog up & slip a lot.
Get a sample pair from your eye Dr. & see. (no pun intended)

I have both glasses and daily disposable contact lenses. I only wear the contacts for nights out as I find after about six hours I just wanna take them out lol. They shouldn't hurt your eyes, unless you put one in back to front and then you would know straight away trust me haha.
They are perfectly comfortable once they are in right however u might wanna make sure you put some make up on to cover any under eye bags that would have previously been hidden by your glasses.
Just make sure you wash your hands well before putting them in and then leave them in after that until you are done wearing them like don't keep taking them out and in. Also, obv don't go to sleep with them in.
Oh and be careful how you rub your eye, like don't rub it up the way too far or the lenze might ride up in your eye and that hurts haha. I think once you get used to putting them in, that's the hard part over and they are defo worth wearing but yeah I would recommend daily disposables.
