Speaking completely for myself: I have lost 128 pounds so far and everyday is a struggle for me. I know I have to watch what I eat and exercise regularly or I will gain the weight back. For me personally I have a hormone disorder which causes my progesterone levels to be higher than normal and also it slows down my metabolism, along with a list of other problems it can cause. I know one of the reasons women tend to lose weight slower or tend to gain weight easier is due partly to hormones and the fact that women naturaly have more body fat than men. Women also tend to deal with stress differently than men and stress can cause an increase in cortisol.

everyone knows that women metabolism is slower because of hormones..
now if you were fat, imagine how fatter you would be if you were a woman. (just being honest)

Mostly estrogen, but progesterone also. Their increased levels of these hormones make them more capable of storing unused energy as fat. They also, on average, have less skeletal muscle than men and thus expend less energy.
Both of these facts means that not only is it easier for women to develop excess fat, it's more likely because they have a lower innate tolerance for calories (because they don't need as many as men).
It has something to do with hormones/metabolic processes.
Maybe women are more likely to fall back into bad habits?

Men usually have less body fat and more muscle than women, generally speaking. However, it all boils down to metabolism as Juilana777 mentioned. That's why guys tend to lose weight faster than women and tend to be on the leaner side.
