The past 3-5 days that I've gone to the gym I have either lost no weight or gained weight.
Any ideas as to why?
Any help?
The most commonly cited reason is that muscle is denser than fat. Any fat loss is offset by muscle gain, so the weight remains more or less the same, but you're still losing fat and getting smaller.
However, that's really only a best case scenario.
Sometimes, this happens early on into a new fitness regime, and all the person has done so far is burn glycogen and lose water. This gives a substantial weight loss at the start, but it is only temporary. Actually burning fat is a much much slower process.
So, depending on how long you've been on this regime, you may have only started burning fat now.
If that's the case, you need to look at what you're eating again.
How long have you been working out? As you begin to lose weight, your marginal rate of weight loss will steadily decline (that is to say, it is easier to lose weight the heavier you are. The same amount of work done by someone that is 200 pounds will result in a higher net weight loss than that work done by someone that is 150). It is generally not possible to go below a normal weight without having really bad eating habits (ie, you starve yourself) with working out. Additionally, gains in muscle may offset the losses in fat in terms of total weight.
That's not long enough..don't give up. Keep going and eventually you will notice results. As far as your eating, are you eating healthy foods? If not, then no amount of workout will be able to counteract the negative effects of unhealthy eating. Eventually you'll want to focus on inches lost as opposed to being fixated on what the scale says. Good luck! Think of it as a journey (lifestyle change) not a destination (quick fix)!
muscle weights more than fat and you are gaining muscle. and usually you have to keep up a routine for weeks or months, so if you are only basing this off a couple of days, keep working and you may have diffferent results
it's been about a month and a half . .. not a couple days. and I haven't done as much weight training in those couple days ...
It's only been 3-5 days, exercising and eating healthy aren't overnight cures for being overweight or obese. It can take up to a month to even see the slightest results.

Ignore the scale. Use a tape measure to measure your progress. The scale can fool you because it doesn't take into account muscle gain. And just because you haven't done weight training doesn't mean you haven't done muscle building exercises.
Is the weight you're gaining from building muscle?
