Dad is diabetic, how can I get him to listen to me? He's sick and isn't making a huge effort to be healthier?

My Dad is diabetic, and has high blood pressure, high cholestrol, chest pains, and anxiety issues from stress and depression from hardship that we've gone through. He recently just came home from the hospital, and we discovered a lot about his help... He needs to take better care of himself, and eat better, and exercise. So, I want to step up, and make sure he eats and lives better. He has been diabetic for years now, and isn't changing. If he doesn't it could be fatal or he could have a heart attack.

Any suggestions?

Tell him how you feel. You can't make him change, he has to want to. Some people would rather take the risks, than to change their lifestyle. It's their choice, but if you tell him how you feel & how it's effecting you, he might take that into consideration.

Maybe he's depressed, or has something else that's bothering him? If there is, than that problem needs to be solved first.

He can become more educated about the disease and its long term effects (you can help with that too).

There isn't much else you can do, don't blame yourself for his decisions (& I'm not saying you are, just don't take it personally).

If you cook him healthy food and sh*t he'll eat it. It's not like he's gonna want to do double work and then just tell him you want to spend time with him and go on walks together. Get involved
